Tequila San Matias Gran Reserva Extra Añejo
Tequila Extra Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed October 30, 2020San Matias Extra Anejo Southern Spirits Single Barrel Tranquility Barrel #136 First off it took me forever to want to taste this. As first impressions from nosing were not inviting. I just could not get into the smell, as it was off-putting. It made me believe it was possible additives were present. Nose: Sweet Church Wine Agave Caramel Maple Palette: Sweet Mellow barrel spice caramel Maple Maple cream donut Agave fades quickly Light underwheming pepper Christmas cookie spices Vanilla “Concentrated elixir” does describe this well Rich Light grape -
69 Nose: Nutty Sweet cream Vanilla caramel Graham cracker Palette: Nutty Sweet Smooth Warm finish Creamy nut Full A little spice Wheat Wish the flavor lingered for on. It makes me want to have another sip. Remind me of Woodford Reserve Bourbon. Different palette, but flavors do not stay. Too light for me. Underwhelming, which I am noticing with woodford. It’s not bad, I just like a lot more going on in my bourbon.

George T. Stagg Bourbon (Fall 2020)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 17, 2020 (edited November 20, 2020)96 This is one of the best bourbons I have tasted. Others may not like it as we all have different palettes, but I really enjoyed this. The balance of flavor and proof was done very well for such a high proof bourbon. The nose is great. Very dark chocolate with intense vanilla. The flavors were excellent including A dark chocolate fudge, caramel, vanilla, cherry coke. Spicy finish lingered for me. Was definitely impressed. It is strong but I could not tell how strong it was due to the “pop” of flavor that explodes in each sip. I will be buying a bottle. -
