Woodford Reserve Kentucky Derby 146
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 4, 2020 (edited September 8, 2020)Still not huge on woodford but this is clearly older and more refined. Still a little hint of tannic bitter oak but has a nice vanilla and really solid finish for the proof -
Bulleit Bourbon Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 6, 2020 (edited September 15, 2020)I’ve got the 21% rye, yeast #4 here. Definitely floral/herbal on the nose with some deeper darker notes and sweetness as well. Complex and can be picked apart but comes together really well as a whole. Not experienced enough with floral notes to say specifics but enjoyable. Palate is nice. Just enough sweetness to balance the less present floral notes and then the rye spice kicks in. Not too hot but enough to make things interesting. Some Carmel cola notes in the mix too. The flavors on the finish is my favorite part really... like if they made double bubble gum in a Carmel or cola flavor... weird I know but pretty addictive. Keep going back for more. The spice isn’t deep or particularly long but that flavor hangs for quite a while and has a sirens song drawing you back in for more. -
High West American Prairie Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in Utah), USA
Reviewed June 29, 2020 (edited July 23, 2020)Young bourbon and rye that just works. Blendvof both on nose. Lighter. Hint of peanuts maybe very subtle. Good sweet palate. Nice build to rye spicevthat lingers really well. It’s not perfect or especially unique but it is really enjoyable. Has bitvof a scotch taste when chewing. Good one to home finish. Toasted oak or port finish? -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Seasoned Wood Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 31, 2020 (edited June 26, 2020)Great pour at a friend’s house. Had that great buffalo trace fruit note to it and wonderful amount of bite and flavor on the palate. Didn’t spend too much time dissecting it but it was really nice. Glad to have had the chance to enjoy it though I didn’t notice any obvious effects of the seasoned wood. Tasted like a solid 100 proof Weller pick or Old Rip frankly.
