Knappogue Castle 12 Year Bourbon Cask Matured
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed December 14, 2016 (edited March 16, 2017)Golden straw color in the glass. Sweet honey, pear and citrus notes on the nose. Slight hint of vanilla and smoke from the ex bourbon barrels. Pear and honey continues on the pallet. Finishes with light vanilla and nutmeg. My first single malt Irish whiskey and it was a great intro to the style. Will be trying some others. -
Nice amber color. Looks very viscous in my glass. Bitter Orange, marzipan and vanilla on nose. Very different from your normal Caribbean runs. Fruit cake spice, candied oranges and a hint of vanilla. Mouth feel is thick and coats the tongue. Finish with a good clean burn. Not for everyone, but a nice change of pace. Would duel for aged rum and orange liqueur in a cocktail.
