Smoke Wagon Small Batch Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Nevada), USA
Reviewed October 23, 2020 (edited October 30, 2020)Nose is a candied apple. Almost a caramel apple. Pallet is a toffee right on the front and moves into a pecan maple syrup mouth feel in the middle with a smooth coffee cocoa middle finish -
Four Roses Private Selection Single Barrel Barrel Strength Bourbon (OESK)

Listed below in order or aromas and tastes over those 20 minutes. Nose: sweet grain, honey, pepper, pecan, vanilla, oak. Then it got pretty awesome... melon, citrus zest, orange Palate: pepper, cinnamon. Strong on the front then tapers to a tannic middle, baking spice, black tea, cedar, wheat.75.0 USD per Bottle -
Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 28, 2020 (edited September 6, 2020)You’ve just come back from an early morning hike in November. Inside the cabin your family is getting breakfast ready. As you get closer you smell the wood smoke from the chimney and you open the door to the smell of buttery pancakes with a caramel and whip cream topping. It’s going to be a good day. The nose is, shocking, like a warm buttery piece of medium well toast. Add to that some caramel and slight coffee, and BAM! What a nose. Crime brûlée is also popping off Palate: firm caramel and light smoke with a tapering bite and sweetness. Lingers to a syrupy butter -
Smooth Ambler Old Scout Straight Bourbon Whiskey 5yr Single Barrel #23868 Flaviar
Bourbon — Indiana (MGP), USA
Reviewed August 21, 2020 (edited August 22, 2020)Wow. SUPER impressed by this one. For 116, the nose is soft butter and caramel and vanilla. No burn. Palate starts with a hit of fresh cut wood and citrus, goes into charcoal and oak creek develops a smooth peppery tingle and settles into cinnamon, baking spice, and a softer peanut and caramel finish. Gotta be honest and say I was not expecting this one, don’t know why. If you see this, get it!40.0 USD per Bottle -
1792 Bottled in Bond Single Barrel Select
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 4, 2020 (edited February 9, 2021)Nose: honey, vanilla, and maple smokiness, slight cherry. Palate: starts off dry and astringent, but not ethanol. More tannic. Black tea, soft oak. It’s a very complex and long finish that leads the tannins to break away and reveal softer flavors. Pretty interesting overall. I can’t remember tasting a bourbon with this type of dry tannic taste. But it does end very soft and cleanly. -
Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 1, 2020 (edited November 28, 2020)The sweetest and savory aroma of French toast and syrup. Nose: brown sugar, vanilla, maple syrup Palate: such a smooth, cherry and vanilla palate with sweetness and not bite given there’s no rye. Just a beautiful expression of bourbon. -
Wilderness Trail Family Reserve Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon (High Rye Bourbon)
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed July 28, 2020 (edited July 1, 2021)A pleasant floral sweetness greets you as you wake up in your tent. It smells of campfire flapjacks and fresh air. Nose: honey, maple syrup, slight oaky char Palate: a slight pepper bite on the front but barely, gives way to pancakes and buttery honey, just the right amount of heat and a lonnnngggg finish. Hints of peppermint and anise but then ultimately the honey and soft floral taste comes back. This is phenomenal. What a treat to have such a balanced high proof bourbon. You would never know it’s BP from the bite. But you know it’s BP from its complexity. -
James E. Pepper 1776 Straight Rye (100 Proof)
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed July 27, 2020 (edited September 4, 2020)Nose: strong sweet and pepper rye, anise, wet cedar, clove Palate: strong ethanol, spice, rye pepper on the front. Bites too much and has a bitter middle. Shallow finish. Long finish is a dry almost tanic ending. Overall pretty disappointing. I could find a handful of $30 rye bottles that are markedly better.30.0 USD per Bottle -
Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 24, 2020 (edited August 9, 2020)This one is a favorite from a scent perspective. I get so many balanced and nuanced smells across the spectrum. I can usually pick out the dominant and secondary tertiary etc. This all intermingles. Nose: cherry, vanilla, maple, slight ethanol. Smokey cedar woodiness . Mulch and pine. Palate: molasses and cherry on the front. Moves delicately to a slight pepper and anise. Finish is a vanilla, brown sugar, oak. Overall a fantastically well rounded small batch. For its price (35-40) I put it a notch below the great everyday value sipper of Elijah SB, 1792 SB.39.0 USD per Bottle
