Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 12, 2015 (edited November 4, 2015)Sweet vanilla and mulled pears dominate the aromas, with a touch of Golden Graham's. Also a hint of allspice and toffee in the background. Honey comes through more on the palate with a more floral note then expected. I'm glad this is 43% alcohol, or it would be rather less robust. Distinctly the older sister of The Balvenie 12 Doublewood. But with age comes wisdom and refinement. A great all around dram. -
Compass Box Great King St Glasgow Blend
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed March 8, 2015 (edited April 13, 2015)Campfire blends well with sweet citrus on the back end. If you can get past the initial peat this one might surprise you. Adding a touch of water helps bring the heat down and allows the other aspects of this whiskey to come through. Definitely worth a look. -
A tea spoon of water is too much for this soft whiskey. Just a couple drops is enough. Undiluted you get wood spice and cinnamon vanilla notes. Letting water do it's work transforms this whiskey. Lightly honeyed notes, with a confectionary/ vanilla glaze aroma with light fruit from the sherry influence. Finish is mild but smooth. For the price this whiskey is exceptional.
