Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 30, 2020 (edited June 25, 2020)Massively flavorful and bold. Ton of spice & smoke, fading in a very dry caramel apple finish. The ethanol hit on this one is substantial, but ice can smooth it out and bring out the caramel and vanilla more which can otherwise be overpowered. It's one of my favorites, but also one of the only I take a bit of ice with, or a half dozen drops of water per 1.5oz50.0 USD per Bottle -
Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 21, 2020 (edited June 25, 2020)Smokey, spicy, sweet maple and complex with a dry finish. The spice up front is similar to Old Forester, but with a caramel rather than fruit finish Very goood, will be added to regulars. UPDATE: Although very good, this will likely be replaced in my lineup by Russell's Single Barrel, which is similar, but better in every way. -
WhistlePig 6 Year PiggyBack Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed May 21, 2020 (edited June 25, 2020)Very spicy and sweet up front, combined with something else I can't quite put my finger on. The finish is sweet with vanilla. I'm less experienced with Rye, but something about this reminds me of a Scotch. Overall it's a bit too sweet for my tastes. -
If you like Bulleit this is a nice step up. Same basic taste profile, but more smooth and rich with stronger flavors and less alcohol taste in the finish. I'm no bourbon tasting expert, but I could definitely tell the difference, and the improvement, in a blind taste test between the two.48.0 USD per Bottle
