Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2019 RC6
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 8, 2021 (edited November 6, 2021)Easily the best MM I’ve tried to date. Nose is like corn candy and a sweet creamsicle. The palate is full of vanilla cake frosting backed up by a viscous mouthfeel. Finish is just long enough to have you craving some more! -
Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 26, 2020 (edited January 10, 2021)These can vary anywhere from good to great in my experience. Some of the store picks are amazing. This review is based on the standard SiB. Nose: Getting a little WT funk and earthy allspice but have to work to get much from the nose Palate: Creamy vanilla and a blast of cinnamon candies, baking spices, and that signature WT flavor that makes it so special. Finish: Medium length finish that brings a nice big spicy rye combination. Really caps off a great ride of flavors. No bitterness or astringency at all. I enjoyed this but prefer the variety in the store picks. I probably like the standard SiB over Rare Breed head to head but not sure if I would pay the extra $15 each time. -
Blanton's Gold Edition
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 20, 2020 (edited September 23, 2022)This is what Blanton’s is supposed to be. Nose is full of dark rich maple, oak, and a hint of orange peel. Palate is oily and delicious. The notes from the nose come to life as you taste the deep rich flavors that you only get with the added age. Finish doesn’t hang around for long but that maple oak, hints of mint chocolate and tobacco make there presence. -
New Riff 4 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 21, 2020 (edited September 24, 2020)One of the better younger bourbons I’ve tried. Have to work to get much on the nose but you get some cornbread, spice, and ethanol. The palate is more flavorful with caramel, citrus, butter, and allspice. You can tell the age in the finish as ethanol and corn notes come forward with a hint of oak. This would be something special with a few more years in the Barrel. -
Old Medley 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in California), USA
Reviewed June 20, 2020 (edited January 10, 2024)Traditional bourbon nose and palate with a little bit of oak and rye spice. Finish is a little dry and quick. Not bad but nothing unique especially at its price point. -
Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 30, 2020 (edited June 11, 2020)Old oak and earthy on the nose with some ethanol. Palate is pretty nice with oak, caramel, and tobacco. Finish is somewhat bitter and astringent. Definitely doesn’t draw you back in. Nothing to write home about but single barrels can differ with each bottle. This bottle was just meh. -
Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 12
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 27, 2019 (edited January 23, 2020)Cherry and some ethanol on the nose. Big and bold on the palate with that cherry and vanilla prominent. Touch of chocolate and sweet caramel. The finish keeps it all going with oak, spice, and that 132 proof burn. This one packs a punch!
