William Larue Weller Bourbon (Fall 2017)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 5, 2018 (edited October 4, 2018)Mooched a dram from a friend at a recent birthday gathering. This goes down pretty easy for such a high proof. Interesting in that there is a sweet and salty element to every sip. This sensation reminded me a really well balanced chocolate covered pretzel. Highly reccomend if you can steal a sip off a friend but not sure I would pay a premium over something like a stagg jr. At the end of the day this is still a wheated bourbon. 4/5 -
George T. Stagg Bourbon (Fall 2016)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 5, 2018 (edited April 22, 2020)Mooched a dram from a friend at a recent birthday celebration. I genuinely enjoyed this. As someone who enjoys Stagg Jr. neat this naturally was delicious to me and one of the more interesting bourbons I have had the pleasure of tasting. Oak, dry red fruit, spices (distinguishable from the alcohol), cherry, and more oak. I unfortuately did not add any water to see the flavor profile mellow as I was quite content with this full bore. I would happily purchase if I somehow found one sitting under a pile of dust in a store. 4.25/5 -
Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 5, 2018 (edited October 14, 2018)Mooched a dram from a bourbon collector at a birthday occasion recently. When it's free, it's hard to complain. That being said... As far as bourbon goes it was quality. Pleanty of earthy tones in the nose and on the taste, very light dark red fruit on the taste with a suprisingly bitter aftertaste. The biggest downfall of this bourbon is simply it is a wheated bourbon. Line this up with 4 other wheated bourbons and the fun of trying a pappy 23 fades away as the flavor profile of the category is just too narrow to really stand out and live up to the hype it recieves. Did I have fun trying it? absolutely. Would I pay the $300 my buddy paid for retail? I don't think I would. I would reccomend to people who really, really enjoy the wheated bourbon category to expeience a very high quality wheated bourbon. But to someone who has ventured beyond wheated bourbon I just don't see the value of $300 a bottle none-the-less a $300 pour. 3.75/5300.0 USD per Bottle -
WhistlePig Old World Cask Finish Rye 12 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Vermont), USA
Reviewed August 23, 2018 (edited June 17, 2019)Tons of red fruits with maybe a hint of orange peel on the nose. Tastes similar to the nose with a long finish but really maintains the rye profile while the Madeira balances it out with the sweetness. Super interesting and very happy with this purchase. Exceptional dram. 4.5/5115.0 USD per Bottle -
Glenfarclas 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 15, 2018 (edited October 4, 2018)The caramel and cream with slight coconut reminds me of warm toasted marshmallows. All three flavors evident but not super complex or in your face. A super pleasant sipper. Sherry on the end makes this super balanced52.0 USD per Bottle -

Exceedingly long finish with a boozy feel.35.0 USD per Bottle -
