Clyde May's Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Alabama, USA
Reviewed November 15, 2020 (edited January 8, 2021)A classic bourbon that comes at a very fair price and is pretty easily accessible. This has got all the flavors you want from a classic bourbon, the vanilla, some caramel, some apple and cherry fruit notes. Solid proof and solid price. Nothing super unique or remarkable, but consistent and tasty for your traditional bourbon. It’s a good option for letting those just getting introduced to bourbon to try because of the price and availability. -
Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed November 15, 2020 (edited December 19, 2020)I love this one. The most dessert whiskey I’ve tried. Definitely benefits from 18 months in run cask. The rye is present but very subdued. I get a strong maple syrup taste like you could pour this on some pancakes. A little heat, but a lot less than you would expect for the proof. Basically a maple syrup sweet vanilla candy with a little rye spice. -
Conviction Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — North Carolina , USA
Reviewed November 15, 2020 (edited March 23, 2022)Varies based on barrel, but generally get a sweet Candy corn flavor. You can easily tell it’s a high corn content whiskey and fairly young, but that’s not a bad thing. Could benefit added wood flavor with some aging, but it’s a new distillery. Super delicious sweet caramel and candy corn with some alcohol burn.
