Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 11, 2017 (edited December 27, 2017)Really good for the cheap price point. I've certainly paid more for worse. It seems to have a bit of a minty taste that numbs my lips. It's got just a bit of a bite that might be good as a mixer. It's not bad, but not my favorite. -
Mellow Corn Bottled in Bond Whiskey
Corn — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 1, 2017 (edited October 17, 2017)I was driving through Kentucky and I purposely stopped just to grab a bottle of this. I so very much was looking forward to trying it out. I was really happy to find out it was $10. ...And then I tried it. I did not like it at all. It was nothing but hot and spicy. I've had unaged corn whiskey before (Dawsonville Moonshine) before and I can definitely tell similarities in the taste. That's not really a good thing to me. If it was aged for 4 years then the color and taste don't indicate it. It tastes anything but "mellow" to me. I may have to downgrade this to a mixer bottle. I won't be searching for another bottle. -
Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 18, 2017 (edited November 11, 2017)I've been curious about this one for awhile. I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy a bottle. First off, the specs: 10 year old, single barrel, BIB, 100 proof, under $30. I wasn't sure what to expect. It was much better than I expected. I was a bit worried that at that proof and that price point this would be overly harsh. It was anything but. The taste seemed pretty complex. It had some vanilla and sweetness up front, followed by some spice, and then a bit of the alcohol at the end. At 100 proof, you can feel it a bit later. Definitely one to be a bit careful with if you're going to have a few. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it. -
Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2017 (edited March 15, 2017)Mine was barrel 502. It was aged just under 8 years barreled in late 2008). I really liked it at first. The first half of the bottle was very smooth. Then it sat half empty for a couple of weeks. I don't know what happened in those two weeks, but it wasn't good. My best comparison is to the McKenna 10 year Single Barrel BIB. The McKenna was MUCH better from start to finish and only a couple of bucks more. -
Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon (NAS)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 25, 2017 (edited March 8, 2018)Very drinkable. No complaints about it at all. You could do a lot worse and pay a lot more. -
Maker's Mark 46 French Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 31, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Has a Much more pronounced flavor than regular Makers. But just tastes like a high rye bourbon to me. Not bad, but probably not one I will seek out again at that price point. I much prefer a good wheated bourbon (Weller) at a lower price. -
I really wanted to like this. I thought that the rye with the wheat would be something unique. In the end, all I tasted was the rye spice and the alcohol. It just didn't do it for me. And at $25, I can think of a at least a dozen other whiskies I'd rather buy. It wasn't terrible, but it just didn't do it for me.
