Green Spot Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed March 8, 2020 (edited December 2, 2020)Nose - honey, apple, banana, grass, moderate ethanol burn. Taste - toffee, sweet cream, sea salt, caramel, milk chocolate, cereal, juicy red fruit, mild alcohol notes and I definitely get the underripe banana from the expert notes, finishing fairly quickly with fading toffee and banana flavors. -
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed March 8, 2020 (edited November 19, 2021)Nose - sweet smoke, vanilla cream, brine, honey, caramel, floral notes, moderate ethanol burn. Taste - creamy vanilla, sweet peat smoke, sea salt, caramel, moderate, but pleasant alcohol bite, finishing reasonably long, creamy, sweet, and smoky. You get the undeniable JW flavor profile, but this has been my favorite one so far. Very enjoyable to drink. -
Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 6, 2020 (edited December 2, 2020)Nose - apple, cherry, caramel, buttery cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, oak, moderate ethanol burn. Taste - cherry, cinnamon, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, barrel notes, moderate ethanol burn, finishing reasonably long with bittersweet cherry and burnt sugar flavors. -
Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon (NAS)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 6, 2020 (edited December 2, 2020)Nose - oak, leather, brown and powdered sugar, caramel, vanilla, peanut, muted cinnamon, moderate to high ethanol burn. Taste - peanut, pepper, burnt caramel, brown sugar, corn, vanilla, cinnamon, fairly strong ethanol burn, finishing long with mild sweet corn and alcohol flavors. Pretty good, but the 120 proof single barrel expression is definitely better. -
Jack Daniel's Tennessee Straight Rye
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 5, 2020 (edited December 2, 2020)Nose - banana bread, vanilla, Nilla Wafer (but not as strong as standard JD), moderate ethanol burn. Taste - cloying banana, vanilla, pepper, rye spiciness, moderate ethanol burn, finishing with prickly spice and fading sweetness. Not terrible, but I don’t like the banana flavor in the rye very much. -
Virginia Gentleman Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky and Virginia, USA
Reviewed March 5, 2020 (edited July 18, 2021)Nose - strong ethanol, corn sweetness, vanilla, light caramel barrel notes. Taste - sweet corn, honey, vanilla, strong young ethanol flavor, finishing thin and quick with dry alcohol notes. Slightly better than I expected, but still pretty rough. Maybe a mixer, but you can get much better whiskies than this for under $20 a bottle. -
Nose - apple, pear, honey, subtle peat smoke, moderate ethanol burn. Taste - caramel, vanilla, toffee, sweet cream, moderate ethanol burn, finishing quick with slight sweetness and hot, prickly alcohol notes you get from a younger whiskey. Overall, this is not a complex whiskey and it tastes a bit young, but a decent budget dram for under $30 a bottle.
