Arran The Bothy Quarter Cask Batch 1
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed September 27, 2018 (edited December 12, 2018)nose: musty tangerines, roses/honeysuckle, perfume and a clay-like minerality. taste: immediately opens with alcohol burn (I find that typical of Arran). However, it does have that wonderful Arran cask taste. quickly evolves into muted citrus, oak and that earthy minerality. finish: fairly short without and new developments. batch 3, 53.2abv, 13,800 btls, bottled 09/201789.95 CAD per Bottle -
Jim Beam Bonded Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 17, 2017 (edited September 9, 2017)For the price, this is a great buy. It's $32 @ the lcbo! This won't wow you, but, it is a solid bourbon (actually I'd call it bourbon light). Nose is medicinal, like cough syrup. A strong ethanol air with hints of fresh grass and oak. Palate is astringent and mild. Dominated by oak, corn, butterscotch and rye spice. 85/100 -
Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey (Discontinued)
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed February 3, 2017The nose is of warm cinnamon, cloves, and, oak. The palate is thick and oily. Tastes of citrus (tangerines), cinnamon and cloves with a pleasant smokiness (almost like an Islay). Really quite good. I give it an 87/100 -
Rich and complex nose. Dried cherries and plums. Fantastic. Taste beautifully follows suit. Rich and complex. A great harmony of the various sherry barrels. Oaky and smooth with the dried fruit playing a supporting role A bit of spice on the finish. Great. I wouldn't put out the $400cad that lcbo wants for it though. A touch of water mellows this beautifully. 95/100
