Glenlivet Founder's Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 12, 2019 (edited September 23, 2020)It's a medium amber color. Lots of fruits to nose through: raisins, apples, dark fruits and citrus. A little water brings out a brighter side, banana and vanilla. The taste is pleasant, dark fruit and spices. Cinnamon and vanilla in traces, with a hint of grassyness. Again, a little water really opens it up. This is very enjoyable for a relatively inexpensive single malt. This would be a great accessible scotch for a home bar. -
It's a pleasant golden. It smells first like apples and pears, more subtly of citrus and honey, and then faintly of vanilla. The taste is sweet. I get mostly honey and apple notes, with very little bite. A dash of water really smoothes it out into a silky sipper, but an ice cube made it so light that it almost stripped it of all its warming character. For an affordable bottle, this is very enjoyable. It's accessible and would make a nice gift for a friend or a great addition to a party.

It looks a pale amber, light gold. I'm met first by scents of vanilla, toffee, and caramel; underneath, I find apple and citrus. Frankly, the taste is pretty flat. There's a big punch of peat and spice up front, and not much to discover after that. I'd choose it over Dewar's White Label, but it just seems like heat with no real depth.

Looks like a pale honey, similar to an American lager. Smells of vanilla, honey, and graham up front, followed by a smoky peat. A whiff of almond. Taste is mixed. If I'm trying to be nice, I might detect some cinnamon, cocoa, and bitter orange. On the other hand, it's reminiscent of a medicinal analgesic. What lingers on the palate isn't particularly pleasant. If I had to drink it, I would hide it in a cocktail.
