Gibson's Finest Rare 12 Year
Canadian — Ontario , Canada
Reviewed March 3, 2019 (edited August 2, 2020)Gibson’s Rare (12), Canadian Whisky. 82 pts. This was left behind by a friend that uses it for mix, and I can see why.... I would never have guessed that it’s 12 years old and only 40%. Initial bite has some lasting heat. There’s a coarseness from the rye, with underlying sweet toffee, citrus rind and cloves. -
Elijah Craig 12, 93 pts. The wood is readily apparent after sampling scotches, along with a slight cherry-like tartness (though certainly not as much as some). Lots of dark fruit and a little cocoa, but the brown sugar and vanilla give it a bit of a fresh-baked sweetness. This is another old bottle, but it has held up remarkably well.

Talisker Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed March 3, 2019 (edited May 11, 2020)Talisker Distillers Edition 1988, bottled 2001. Island, 100 pts. Refined and very smooth, with more of a wine character than I’ve ever experienced. Oak is prominent, with lots of sherry-coated fruit cake (dried fruit, light nut and a hint of spice). I usually prefer some more peat and smoke, but this is phenomenal. Cheers to Robbie Burns!
