Westward American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Oregon, USA
Reviewed December 13, 2019 (edited June 22, 2020)Oak and spice. Definitely get a different note because of the barley. Bright citrus, and lighter vanillas and more floral hints come out with a bit of water. A little oily and lingers. Overall a solid American malt. Have not had many but this could be a daily drinker. -
Very strong malt notes and smoke. Thought this would be made of some island distilleries??? Sort of sea watery and salty tastes. Citrus and honeys are the lighter notes. Not too oily, not too thin but leaves a good thicker mouthfeel. A bit of leather, and overall earthy ness. Good presentation at 46%.

Ohishi Islay Cask Finish Whisky
Other Whiskey — Mizukami, Japan
Reviewed December 10, 2019 (edited September 13, 2022)Not too impressed. Nose isn’t as Smokey as I thought even though it’s very Smokey. Vanilla custards and baked fruits. Not bad, not great. -
Kilchoman Machir Bay (2012 Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 9, 2019 (edited January 3, 2020)Slight bit of smoke. Citrus and bright baked bread come through. Toasted nuts and some vanillas. Oaky and has a bit of a youthfull taste to it. Love that it's presented at 46%. A little water calms it a bit and brings out more floraly herbal notes. Solid drinker. -
New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Michigan), USA
Reviewed December 8, 2019Solid bourbon. Vanillas and oak. Nothing special. Just a good bourbon. -
Smoke right away. You get a brine and salt note. Does not taste high proof, it’s been mellowed by the wood in a beautiful way. Once the smoke gives way, mint and a tiny bit of citrus slap you in the face. Whisky is thin and light in color. Not too oily. I love this whisky. Reminds me of Lagavulin a bit.
