Bourbon — Missouri, USA
Reviewed December 11, 2023A quick-take from Whiskey in the Winter St. Louis Whiskey Festival: With a nose of apple pie and a rich and juicy body, this new release was previously only available at the distillery gift shop. This barrel-proof expression goes above and beyond their flagship offering. -
Holladay 6 Year Soft Red Wheat Bottled-In-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Missouri, USA
Reviewed December 11, 2023A quick-take from Whiskey in the Winter St. Louis Whiskey Festival: vanilla, spioce, and a hint of pepper- this wheater can stand toe-to-toe with Maker's Mark and wheat heavy mash bills. -
Nose: Vanilla and Caramel Palate: Big vanilla that lasts through the entire palate Finish: Short to medium, some chocolate and malt notes can be found at the end Wow, I would swear this was a bourbon with the bog vanilla flavor but the typical Irish profile pops its head at the end to remind you it's Jameson. It's a fantastic sipper, It's funny that the cask strength for this one is just 100 proof.7.0 EUR per PourDick Macks Pub

Nose: Soft vanilla and cereal grain Palate: A sweet vanilla os follwed by malt and a hint of smoke Finish: Short finish that repeats the sweetness before disappearing but is warming on the way down. While it’s not overly complex, this is a solid sipper, for those used to American Whisket (like me) you will be right st home with this sweet and rich bodied pour.7.0 EUR per BottleBar Rua

Smoky Quartz V5 Bourbon
Bourbon — New Hampshire , USA
Reviewed November 3, 2023 (edited November 17, 2023)Nose: Vanilla (almost cloying), corn, but an odd chemical note (is it rubber? varnish?) Palate: Oak, char, a little bit of vanilla towards the end of the palate Finish: A sweet but somewhat bitter finish, short to medium length As a New England native, I was excited to try something from Seabrook, NH. The Veteran owned distillery used a 100% corn mash and aged it for 16 months in 15-gallon white oak barrels- much smaller than the more commonly used 53-gallon. The smaller size allows for more contact with the wood and quicker aging. The process explains the end product: there's a lot of potential with its sweet profile but in it still shows a lot of youth and is rather unbalanced. I would like to see what a more mature version of this would yield. -
Nose: Amazingly has some bourbon characteristics: Caramel, sweet stone fruits Palate: Creamy, with a hint of vanilla and spice- very soft body Finish: Short, fades away with sweetness and spice and a hint of floral This Irish whiskey is a crushable mid-tier sipper. The influencers of the barra oats as well as the bourbon and sherry cask finishes give this single pot still a refined profile. This is a whiskey for enjoying moments with, not slinging back at the pub.65.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: Peaches, Grapes, Apple, a Brandy-like profile Palate: Faint whisps of vanilla, tannic oak, bitterness Finish: Short, almost no finish Self-described as made with 10-liter pot stills and a dream- perhaps they need to keep dreaming. The nose was interesting with its fruity notes but the palate falls absolutely flat. Thin with no finish, at first sip this whiskey came off as a 100% drain pour. However, a couple more sips I found a little bit more in the palate but overall this is a no for me dog.

Nose: A good amount of oak Palate: Strong baking spices including cinnamon and peoper with a small hint of vanilla Finish: On my first sip the spice transitioned into a vanilla sweetness that floated up my palate. Well, it’s a Wild Turkey product! Bottled at 101 proof, this single barrel was a bit thin but a serviceable sipper. However it doesn’t offer a lot more to make me come back to it again and again.16.0 USD per PourBarrel
