Hancock's President's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 16, 2023Nose: Cherry and other stone fruits Palate: Carmel and vanilla Finish: Short but sweet Hancock’s is a very crushable pour that is a shining example of what bourbon is. However is it worth the proce and hype that comes woth finding it? Absolutely not. There are so many other bottles out there that achieve the same effect. At the end of the day it’s a simple bottle that does what it does well.Reserve 101 -
Jack Daniel's 10 Year (Batch 1)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed August 16, 2023 (edited November 22, 2024)Nose: Banana Nut Bread, Vanilla Palate: More banana but green with some oak and vanilla sweetness towards the end Finish: Short bit the sweetness continues though A shining example of what Jack can be. It is still thin on the body, but this expression is a more refined take on what makes JD Jack Daniel’s.10.0 USD per PourReserve 101 -
Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 15, 2023 (edited September 1, 2023)Nose: Stone fruit like cherry, almost medicinal. Some ethanol from the proof. Buttery vanilla frosting. Palate: More cherry at the top with a hint of vanilla but shifts to cinnamon and baking spices. Finish: Baking spices take over for a medium finish. Weller Antique 107 shows what a few more proof points can do to amp up a good wheater. It’s understandable why it’s so hunted. A fantastic sipper.12.0 USD per PourLittle Dipper Bar -
Nose: Apricot Palate: Citrus fruit with a hint of sweetness Finish: Medium to long finish, typical baking spices Despite the Indiana source, this doesn't come off as an MGP 95/5 rye. Instead, it's a more muted rye that only makes itself known at the finish. While it sets itself apart from a typical rye, it doesn't do enough for me to set itself apart from the rest of the Clyde May line-up.

Nose: Baked apple pie and ice cream with notes of apple spice and vanilla Palate: A hint of apple a tiny bit of vanilla but mostly spice Finish: Short to medium finish packed with baking spices A very interesting take: whiskey finished with apples. It's not a flavored whiskey per se- instead, it offers a hint of apple in what is otherwise a sweet and spicy pour (which is interesting given it's lower proof.)

Nose: Brown sugar Palate: Vanilla, more brown sugar, cinnamon Finish: Short to medium finish, a bit dry but a typical sweet finish with a kick of cinnamon thanks to the 92 proof. Honestly a pretty middle-of-the-road sipper, it offers more of a finish thanks to a couple extra proof points but nothing special about this one.

John AP Conoley Bourbon
Bourbon — Newport, North Carolina, USA
Reviewed July 20, 2023 (edited September 3, 2023)Nose: Ethanol, grains, with a few drops of water bring out tobacco and leather Palate: A very artificial vanilla cake frosting- not the good kind. It's reminiscent of frosting from a cheap grocery store cake Finish: Short finish with some oak and cinnamon but upon repeated pours a little bitter, tannic finish This craft spirit from North Carolina's Bogue Sound Distillery is not a straight bourbon whiskey which hints at its probable young age. There is a lot of potential here with the sweet profile however the flaws from this young whiskey are too glaring for it to be a passable neat pour. -
Nose: Sweet maple syrup, butterscotch, oak Palate: Vanilla, oak, baking spices Finish: Medium, with more wood and oak There's something about prohibition that makes people think of moonshine. This express comes with the proof to make you think about the before-times but the subtle sweetness and spiciness to remind you how far bourbon has come.
