Talisker 10 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed January 12, 2020 (edited January 19, 2020)A really nice treat. With the price of storm I've not been without a bottle in my closet for some time. However the talisker 10 really reminds me of the wonderfully complex spirit the Talisker distillery is capable of. The nose bring medium fruits, melon, cherry, and light sweetness. A light peat on the palate comes through, and quite mature for a 10y. The peat walks and hand in hand with the fruit notes. Very well a balanced! -
Braddock Oak Single Barrel Rye
Rye — Virginia, USA
Reviewed January 7, 2020 (edited October 30, 2020)I find this nose to be incredibly off-putting. Soap, and thin astringent. What follows in the palate shows an underlying light and sweet spirit which might be enjoyable had it not been ruined by these sour and aggressive notes. I can't taste anything... Through the sip and for at least 5 minutes. Don't ruin your cocktails with this either, however it does a reasonable job unclogging my sink. 1 point for the buzz. -
Laws Secale Straight Rye Bottled-In-Bond
Rye — Colorado, USA
Reviewed January 7, 2020 (edited October 29, 2022)A truly outstanding spirit! The nose is very subtle with refined hints of grain and maybe a touch of cantaloupe. The palate rewards with everything I look for: pepper, a slight sweet honey, and the depth that comes with a higher proofed spirit. Honey and apple play with you until the end. Sadly, these few drops conclude the journey of this bottle for me. Will surely look for it in the future. -
Overall a fascinating spirit. Incredibly dark notes on the palate with chocolate and hazelnut, almost to a cocoa powder degree. The nose is much more refined, with subtle dark cherry. As a 100% Rye, it really catches you off guard. My guess is this spirit was a wild horse out of the still; 1.5yr of aging likely calmed this down to something enjoyable. The pepper eludes me!

Solid bottle for the price! The nose is really intriguing with fruits and floral notes: superb. The palate is sharp as you might expect from a budget 100proof but overall an enjoyable ride. I don't quite enjoy the corn notes - personal problems. The finish ends w some black pepper and cinnamon.21.0 USD per Bottle

Reviewed January 7, 2020 (edited May 15, 2022)Really a shock to the system! Delicate and refined - quiet peat that allows the sweetness of the grain to shine through. Vanilla on the nose and palate, progressing into dark fruits. The finish concludes with melon and ripened fruit.Ardbeg Embassy
