Tastes

I really like this. A lot. The nose is salty and earthy, with a sweet pear-like scent. There are light notes of sulfur like a lit match. The smell is sweet almost like mesquite. The tastes moves from leather, to sweet, to salty almost like pickle brine wrapped in fresh leather. Its lightly peppery and his a mild bitter finish.

Talk about tasting a legend, like the fermented tears of a dragon. (I was going to mention Chuck Norris here, but then I realized he doesn't shed tears.) This whiskey has some strong fangs with a long burn and an even longer finish. This one's hug is long and warm like a hug from grandma. It tastes of vanilla and apples with cinnamon on the edges of the tongue. It really tastes like a really good cinnamon apple fritter with an emphasis on a thick vanilla glaze. The finish is like chewing on a hard caramel for several minutes.

To start off, this whiskey has a lightness and color that reminds me a lot of Canadian whiskey, but tastes a lot better. The nose has notes of apples, light chocolate, fresh cut wood and baking flour. This whiskey tastes of hot apple cider, french bread, almonds and a bit of custard. The finish is quite short, and leaves an aftertaste of wood and pepper, kind of like a well seasoned tongue depressor.

This is some really good stuff. I would highly recommend this if you are into apple flavored candy, but by no means is this a flavored whiskey. First, this whisky smells like sweet apple candy and cider. The taste is quite similar too. It is extremely smooth and tastes of sweet apple juice and cinnamon. The closest comparison I can make is the taste of Australian apple licorice candy.

Finally got to try some Bruichladdich, and I was not disappointed. The nose is fresh and sweet with a touch of salt. The taste is a bit salty, and sweet like dried stone fruits, mainly apricots. There are notes of sea air and sand that remind me a bit of Oban Little Bay. This is good.

This is a simple but relatively tasty whiskey. Not great, but not bad. The nose is primarily ripe banana and peanut butter. A bit oily mouthfeel with the tastes of peanuts, banana and vanilla extract. The finish has strong notes of vanilla as well. Not super complex, but not terrible.

I have been dying to get my hands on this for quite a while, and my expectations were far exceeded. Lets start with the nose, oh the wonderful smell that is Flaming Heart. It has a light, sweet peat. The most vivid image that comes to mind is the smell of dry fall leaves burning on a crackling campfire, with toasted pecans and sweet jelly beans. The taste is better. The first notes are light tar and rubber that are quickly surpassed by toasted sunflower seeds and dried apricots. As the taste develops on the tongue it turns mouthwatering, smoked burnt ends and a salted nut mix. If you let it sit on your tongue a peppery characteristic becomes apparent. The finish is smokey, smooth, sweet, salty and warm all at the same time. The lingering aftertaste makes me think I just ate barbecue brisket. Now I really want barbecue...

This was a lucky find to come across one of the sample vials by itself. This is a subtle and smooth whiskey. Low sting, but still tasty. The nose is a mix of ice cream, apples, light salt and pancake batter. It tastes of citrus, sugar cane, salted crackers and ginger. The finish has a nice spice to it, and goes down smoothly. It's creamy, spiced, sweet and decadent. Overall, this is tasty and worth a second pour (and a third).

This hits all the right notes for me for a peated scotch. Its' sweet and smokey. The scent is like that of dried meat and fresh rubber. The taste is like taking a bite out of a bike tire covered in a salty/sweet jerky with brine and light fruity flavors. There is a slight taste of toast in the finish. Tasty and deserves a good bacon cheeseburger next to it.

This is pure 103 proof magic! The nose starts with vanilla, sugar cookies and molasses. As the tastes develop the smell of brown sugar and nutmeg come to the surface. The taste is even better starting with cinnamon, maple cookies, a spicy honey that reminds me of fireweed honey, and butter. Just butter. The finish is slow and tastes like a green caramel apple with a touch of bitter notes.
