Tastes

Unmistakably Islay, and yet with a difference. Gone is the overcast Scottish Seaside, with notes of brine and seaweed, and in is the old time medicine. That cough syrup you loved as a child. It's rich and warm, with a real sweetness under its smokey facade, and yet it does all of this without the indelicate intensity of a Speyside. Very nice indeed.

A decent winey whisky. I wouldn't say it was anything special, it's 40%, 12 years old and from the Speyside region, I'd say that gives you everything you need to know.

Missing everything.

Smokey and powerful yet with a surprisingly light, almost coconutty flavour underneath.

A lovely fudgy, honey, vanilla Highland malt. A favourite of Prince Albert, and a favourite of mine!

Medicinal, iodine, kippers and kelp. Tastes like overcast Scottish seaside with just enough complexity to keep you interested.

Smoke. Unsubtle smoke. Yet underneath, a warm and rich dram. A cheap, extreme Caol Ila.

A fascinating and varied malt. Peaty, salty and oily. Rich yet complex. Lots of fun!

Rich and full, the classic brineyness of the "Maritime Malt" with a lovely bourbon and smokey kick. The increased ABV over the 12 is very welcome, giving a rich depth that the 12 is missing.

A middle of the road attempt at whisky. You'd barely know Jura was an island by this malt, I'd have placed it on the outskirts of Speyside. Unsubtle, winey and uninviting.
