Hmm...an interesting spirit. More salty than I was expecting and frankly than I would like. I do like the complexity and subtlety this spirit has though. However, on its own I feel like it is missing something that would make me love sipping it. I have found it is great to mix with Tequila to create an Oaxaca Old Fashioned. In that cocktail its subtly and flavors work well.

3 Howls Hop Flavored Whiskey
Flavored Whiskey — Washington, USA
Reviewed June 6, 2017 (edited May 20, 2019)A unique and somewhat odd spirit. Whiskey meets IPA. I definitely had trouble finding things to use it for until I started mixing it with ginger beer. It mixes well with ginger beer. Not quite at a level where you can enjoy sipping it on it's own. Worth a taste though. -
I find this more enjoyable than the original. The extra aging in Sherry casks adds some sweetness, fruit, and complexity the original doesn't have. It doesn't have the big woody forwardness of a bourbon or the smoke of a scotch, both qualities I enjoy at times, instead this Jameson is just easy drinking and delicious.

Del Maguey VIDA Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed March 28, 2017 (edited August 16, 2017)Vida is most often recommended as a good place to start for those new to mezcal. At least in 2017 and beyond I'd recommend starting elsewhere. It's not very enjoyable to sip and the price keeps creeping up. It's really only about $5 less now than something that is good for entry level sipping as well as mixing. Do a little research and start with a Mezcal that retails for $39 and up. -
