Not the most complex or refined, but it's flavors are strong and good - smoke, bbq, almond cake - thanks to the high proof, which makes it a satisfying whiskey to sip slowly. The branding is pretty silly, but does capture the aggressive, unsubtle approach of this whisky. Reminds me of Lost Spirits Abomination.

George Dickel 11 Year Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky (Fall 2008)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed January 9, 2022The nose is subtle. On the pallette, I get nuts, fruits (a little cherry), and cinnamon. It's rich, but not oily. The finish is satisfying, where a little barrel oak shows up. -
Joseph Magnus Triple Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon — Indiana (Finished and Bottled in Washington DC), USA
Reviewed December 5, 2021 (edited January 8, 2022)It has a lot of the dessert-like, baking, accessible flavors that make bourbon so good, but without being very sweet. I also get a lot of cinnamon, and a bit of spice. This gives it an interesting flavor, and one I I really like. You might think of it like a very tasty, old fashioned candy. -
Balcones Lineage Texas Single Malt
American Single Malt — Texas, USA
Reviewed October 17, 2021 (edited October 24, 2021)Distinctive and tasty. I get a kind of spicy chocolate flavor, but without either too much sweetness or bitterness. Has some of the flavors that I really like in other Balcones whiskeys, though nothing quite like the Brimstone. -
Lagavulin 9 Year (Game of Thrones-House Lannister)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed June 27, 2020Very good. If this came from another distiller, I would be impressed by the peat and smoke notes. But since this is a lagavulin, I can't help but wish that these notes were as strong as they are in the 16-year, or even 8-year.
