Glen Moray Elgin Classic Sherry Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandReviewed November 4, 2018Super light flavor, distinctive scotch taste but very sweet. Tail grows sweeter as it goes along, and has a woody sweet taste, I bet what Sherry tastes like. Doesn't taste fake or added at all, wonderful blend of flavors. Thin and light, needs no water. Minimal bite. Just short of 5 only because it's actually a little too sweet for me. Tastes like dessert.
Weller Antique 107 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed November 4, 2018Tons of intensity and kick, burns, but it's a good burn. Spice and sweet mostly, sweet first, then spice. Once you add some water it balances wonderfully. Still some bite, but that's to be expected with the proof. Rich, thick, super long tail end. Fantastic.
Laphroaig 10 Year
Peated Single Malt — Islay, ScotlandReviewed November 4, 2018Smokiest smoke smoke smokin. Kicks really hard, almost a little too hard. Doesn't need any water, little bit thin. Could do with a touch less smoke, otherwise magnificent.
Old Grand-Dad 114 Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed November 4, 2018Incredibly strong and aggressive, needs water. Light spice present in it somewhere, clove or something. Cinnamon? Needs to be a bit richer to balance the strength.
Chivas Regal 12 Year
Peated Blend — ScotlandReviewed November 4, 2018Light and very pleasant on the nose. Pretty thin, but minimal burn, light smoke, and fruit. I'm tasting apple or something sweet. Sweet and smoke mostly. Tail is pleasant with lots of smoke in the back of the mouth. Everything is light and the balance is good, but pretty unassuming.
Blended — ScotlandReviewed November 4, 2018Doesn't need any water, balance is nice. Has that smokey wood bite of scotch. Needs no ice, but is pretty bland. Nice for the price, but only a step or two above Kirkland.
Old Grand-Dad Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed November 4, 2018Real heavy on the wood, vanilla too, but the wood seems to be prominent. Almost balanced on it's own, needs the tiniest bit of water. Would like more balance to the flavor, there's not enough richness or depth to balance the oak. A little thin.
Nikka Whisky From the Barrel
Blended — JapanReviewed November 4, 2018Very light and harsh like most Japanese whiskeys are, but I don't hate this one. Very light, maybe a fruit flavor, and light wood. Lots of burn, but it's a barrel burn not alcohol. It's still too harsh for me. Bottle was low, perhaps that's why. It's much better than most others I've tried still.
Highland Park 12 Year
Peated Single Malt — Islands, ScotlandReviewed November 4, 2018Deep and rich with wood and smoke dominating. Tastes old, but not as rich as I'd expect. Smooth and balanced. The burn is pretty pleasant, but it's a little intense. It's a magnificent scotch , but not much beyond. Paired with dark chocolate is fucking heaven. Fuck me.
Johnnie Walker Black Label
Peated Blend — ScotlandReviewed November 4, 2018Tons of sweetness on the nose when I first pour it, vanilla and caramel to me. A little rich and salty, with a small hit of peat smoke but mostly that deep vanilla. Good tail, good burn. Can tell it's a blend but it's rather enjoyable.
