Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 27, 2018 (edited February 19, 2018)Nose: Raisin, spiced nuts, fruit rollups obviously port. Taste: Spices, honey, creme brulee, saltes caramel. Maybe it's the marketing but it really does feel like an angelic whiskey. This is one of those whiskeys you wouldn't mind being made into a perfume. The experience is that of a first kiss. The feeling like you are floating on a cloud with every detail being blurry but also unforgettable. -
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 18, 2018 (edited April 24, 2018)Nose: Buttered toast, honey, almost melon... (honeydew maybe?) spiced plumb, fresh cut wood. Taste: Light, honey almond, white bread, Mead, orange, really all types of citrus. I find the taste enjoyable but fleeting. It feels like flirting with someone cute, sweet with light hearted smiles but ultimately ephemeral. A glimpse more than a reality. -
Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon (2017)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 18, 2018 (edited April 29, 2020)Nose: vanilla & caramel as well a a spice I can't quite place but it reminds one of Christmas... Color I find unimportant as it really does not effect my enjoyment of this or any other drink. Taste: very light oil at first, again slight vanilla. most of the flavor drops off for me leaving only burning, an enjoyable burn but still a burn. Adding water is almost a must, just a few drops and it changes completely, the burn takes longer to start letting you enjoy the subtlety longer. All in all it is too subtle for me. I find myself chasing the complexity but never quite catching it.
