123 Organic Extra Añejo Diablito Tequila
Tequila Extra Añejo — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed December 6, 2016Easily the best aged tequila I have tasted. The nose is rich with fresh agave, cinnamon, nutmeg, and subtle oak. The palate follows suit but with extra black pepper and some sweet vanilla and caramel noted. Fantastic stuff. -
Belle Meade Bourbon Cognac Cask Finish
Bourbon — (bottled in) Tennessee, USA
Reviewed October 2, 2016Tasted at the distillery in Nashville. Much lighter than the Sherry finish (and better) with tart crisp notes and vanilla on the finish. Their best product behind only the single barrel releases. -
Four Roses Limited Edition Bourbon Elliott's Select (2016)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 29, 2016 (edited March 5, 2020)Another fantastic limited release from Four Roses. The rating gets bumped down a bit though since many of the private selections I've had have been just as good or better for half the cost. The bourbon is top notch though. -
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed September 29, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Easily one of my favorite readily available ryes, and a huge upgrade from the double rye. A must try. -
High West 14 Year Light Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Indiana (bottled in Utah), USA
Reviewed September 29, 2016 (edited October 7, 2016)I'd probably give this 4.5 if it was an option. A few tips if you try this: 1) Try it before you drink anything else. The subtleties are easily overlooked if your palate is used to bigger, more grain forward whiskey. And 2) don't go in expecting bourbon. This is a wonderful product but it's nothing like bourbon. The nose is sweet with graham crackers and marshmallows and the palate matches. This is a great summer whiskey and likely one of the most unique products you'll try. 14 year light whiskey just doesn't exist. I would happily by another bottle at $100. -
High West Rocky Mountain Rye 21 Year
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed September 29, 2016 (edited December 11, 2016)Just a fantastic dram. A bit on the gentle side due to the lower rye content but a definite must try for any rye fan. I immediately picked out vanilla with sift wood notes.
