Bombay Sapphire East Gin
London Dry Gin — England
Reviewed October 24, 2021 (edited September 6, 2024)Intense aromas of lemongrass, juniper, and coriander, along with a subtler note of licorice. Oily mouthfeel, with a palate of spice, citrus, and earth – black peppercorn and lemongrass being particularly dominant, though juniper and coriander return here as well. Flavours are well-balanced. Predominantly grainy and neutral nose with a touch of charcoal. Oily mouthfeel. Subtle citrus and grain sweetness on the attack; midpalate is full of spice, which then lingers on the finish as the charcoal returns. Comparatively little burn. A fair bit going on here for a vodka in this price range. 2.50/5.00 – Acceptable (neat)

Unsurprisingly, orange dominates the nose, though much fainter notes of nutmeg, banana, cinnamon, and pineapple also appear. Mouthfeel is very rich. Palate is quite sweet and lightly bitter, with – no surprise – intense orange marmalade and tangerine flavours. Some cinnamon and pineapple reappear on the medium-length finish. Not quite complex enough to be truly memorable on its own, but it makes an ideal ingredient for many a cocktail. 2.75/5.00 – Decent (neat)
