Oregon Spirit Straight American Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Oregon, USA
Reviewed February 13, 2020 (edited July 5, 2022)On the nose there's just the faintest hint of an anise seed note I personally dislike, but it's not too off-putting here. It's sweet and a little vegital on the taste. Not dusty corn, more dry moss, maybe. There's just a pinch of spicy smoldering on the finish, which is otherwise long with fallen leaves perhaps. When I first tried it a few months ago, it got relegated to use in Whiskey Sours (for which it's actually excellent), but it's growing on me. A pleasant experience on its own, and I'm glad I gave it another try neat. -
Laird's Apple Brandy Single Cask Selection
American Brandy — New Jersey , USA
Reviewed February 3, 2020It's like drinking an apple pie. Apples, and apples, and apples. Some phenolic tones, a little spice, but then more and more apples. -
Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon (NAS)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 30, 2020 (edited February 8, 2020)On the nose it's dust and brown sugar, with a touch of mown grass. The taste is remarkably pleasant for a 50% ABV. Nothing new comes in on the taste, but the veggital notes push to the front, and the dust drops away. Maybe the brown sugar morphs into agave syrup. There's a little cayenne pepper on the finish, which is otherwise dominated by the sweetness. I'm a fan. -
Laird's Apple Brandy Single Cask Selection
American Brandy — New Jersey , USA
Reviewed January 9, 2020Apple and clove on the nose. The taste is hot (hello 124+ proof) with more apples & more spices, but the spices turn to cinnamon. It's very warming on the finish. I enjoy it. -
Woodinville Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Washington, USA
Reviewed January 7, 2020 (edited January 12, 2020)Honey and a vague fruitiness on the nose. A little baking spice on the taste. Just a little cut grass on the finish. Going back to the nose brings more sweetness. The fruit starts to move more in the direction of berries. Very nice. -
Lost Republic Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — (aged & bottled in) California, USA
Reviewed January 2, 2020 (edited December 31, 2020)Brown sugar, with apples or pears. Moves to dusty corn and hay. A little warm on the finish, with some prickly bits. Enjoyable.
