Tomintoul 16 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 23, 2022 (edited August 27, 2022)Aroma of crisp green apple, honey, and some oxidized sherry notes. Flavor is toffee, black pepper, and a bit of apple as well. Quite soft, the bottle dubs it “the Gentle Dram,” and it’s not wrong.Taste of Scotland -
Lagavulin Offerman Edition Guinness Cask Finish
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed June 13, 2021 (edited June 22, 2021)Nose is chocolate, chiles, campfire. Definitely makes sense as an Islay whisky finished in stout casks. Taste is pretty classic Lagavulin up front, albeit with the volume turned down. Honeyed smoke with some medicinal notes. The finish is really something though: those chocolate and coffee notes from the Guinness show up and you get a bitter beer finish. Tasty stuff, and a great dram to celebrate my first Father’s Day, especially given the production story! -
Cardhu Gold Reserve (Game of Thrones-House Targaryen)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 20, 2020 (edited August 20, 2021)Nose - marzipan, golden syrup, apple, a bit vinous Taste - pretty soft/mild. Lightly sweet with a bit of holiday spice Perfectly pleasant, but not very complex. Best neat. -
Royal Lochnagar 12 Year (Game of Thrones-House Baratheon)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 20, 2020Nose - pear, clove, honey, toast Taste - vanilla custard, clove/allspice, maple Not bad, pretty tasty after dinner whisky. Doesn’t live up the Talisker or Oban bottlings in the GOT line, but is up there. -
Talisker Select Reserve (Game of Thrones-House Greyjoy)
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed April 16, 2020Nose - I get burnt sugar and pepper spice. Maybe poached pear as well. Taste - Sweet and salty to start, with that distinct maritime Talisker flavor. Finishes warm and spicy, almost like smoked paprika. Good stuff, reminds me of the 10, but with the volume turned down a touch. Probably my favorite of the GoT single malts. Enjoyed neat or with ice.
