I'm hunting for those chocolate truffles but I'm not really finding them. Yes on the vanilla and oak/rickhouse on the nose. Sort of harsh/bitter on my palate. That must be what is identified as the 'spicy' characteristic or even the dark chocolate. Not a great sipper for me but I'll let it sit and open up for a while and check back in. It did make a good old fashioned though, with holiday spice simple syrup, smoked cherry bitters and Luxardo.

Wild Turkey Bourbon 101
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 23, 2020 (edited January 12, 2021)No secrets here: it's one of the most well-rounded budget bourbons around. Sweetness and spice are balanced, short finish that's just the slightest bit of heat and oak on the front of the tongue. Three drops of water opened it up and made it a little more 'desserty' like a sugar cookie for me. WT 101 will always be in my cabinet. -
Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or Sauternes Cask Finish
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 14, 2020 (edited July 13, 2020)Sweet. But with honey and vanilla. Not so much dried fruit. Mild spice. Not as mature as what I typically enjoy but quite nice. Had a dram after a piece of pumpkin pie and that paired very nicely. -
Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 21, 2020 (edited February 22, 2020)Incredibly sweet nose. Rich vanilla and fruit. Very long finish with no smoke which is just the right amount for me. Once or twice a year for a very special occasion. -
