Finlaggan Old Reserve Islay Single Malt
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 13, 2016 (edited October 25, 2019)[Re-Review 022716] - Soft and creamy on the nose. Dried raisins, and fruit snacks if you will. Certainly harsh with bite, and a friuty delivery. It's rather sweet and pure tasting. The finish is harsh, swift, and bitter. An alternative single malt at a $22 price point is nothing to scoff at however. After comparing this with my most recent experience at Whiskey Live, this young malt leaves much to be desired with where it supposedly comes from (Caol Ila? Lagavulin?) -
White Oak Akashi Blended Whisky
Blended — Hyogo, Japan
Reviewed February 13, 2016 (edited August 5, 2017)Mmm...it has a great aroma, and a nice smoky bite to it. Sweet, smooth, and a little grainy. It's certainly young stuff, but I do believe this is a bit above average. A great alternative to the expensive Suntory line. -
Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 5, 2016 (edited August 5, 2017)Smoky, peaty. Not unfamiliar from other peaty malts, but doesn't particularly stand out from the masses. Friggin' delicious though!
