Craigellachie 13 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 18, 2016 (edited August 5, 2017)Sweet hard candy notes. Even with the addition of water this was a harshly sharp malt to take down. -
Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal Cognac
Cognac — Cognac, France
Reviewed March 12, 2016 (edited July 2, 2018)[Re-review 040816] - on the nose I get sweet cherries and grapes. It's very aromatic with little burn. Wood spice and crisp cherry and perhaps raisin on the palate. It's very "cool" tasting and thin. The finish is long with a nice woody burn and consistent with the fruity delivery. A little dryness that you would get after eating very rich dark chocolate. -
Bernheim 7 Year Original Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 10, 2016 (edited April 21, 2016)Woody toned color, with a tinge of orange. Sweet floral tones, orange, candy apple, and almonds on the nose. The taste comes off as slightly nutty, and then strolls along the tongue revealing juicy candy notes. It reminds me of gummy worms and cherry fruit snacks. The finish is engages more gushy fruit snacks and spice. This whiskey is definitely candy! Easy drinking that I would recommend for beginners and the casual drinker. I wouldn't even bother with water or ice. -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 9, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)I'm more of a scotch and Irish drinker, but I've been looking to expand my horizons a bit more. I'd rather give this a 3.5, but a 3 will suffice. Light brown maple coloring. On the nose it is quite pleasant. Minty even! Syrupy sweetness with a nice amount of spice. There is plenty of bite with a smooth fruity finish. For 100 proof it is rather easy drinking! -
Dalmore 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 26, 2016 (edited March 27, 2018)[Re-Review 030416] - Strong and commanding nose comprising of mildly raspberry sweetness. There is a nice rich delivery of citrus orange that lends itself to this pure scotch. Continuing with soft honey with consecutive samplings. The finish exemplifies dry and woody red wine. However, there are other highland malts that have a little extra bite and richness. In the end I do believe this is highly recommendable if you would like to experience something above a 12 year old expression, if you have the means. P.S. I do think this is highly overpriced. -
Maker's Mark Cask Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 25, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)[Whiskey Live New York 2016] - I was dissapointed. I was hoping that a CS version of something that on its own is a great starter whiskey would add something that would help the product "Level Up". Instead it raises itself to a level of bourbon quality that I'm just not into. Personal preferences. -
Glenkinchie 12 Year
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 25, 2016 (edited August 5, 2017)[Whiskey Live New York 2016] - Pretty basic malt. I woudln't hold a candle up to it. -
Connemara 12 Year Peated Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed February 25, 2016 (edited August 5, 2017)[Whiskey Live New York 2016] - More like a scotch wannabe Tyrconnel. A Cooley whiskey for sure, but I don't understand the whole point of advertising it as a peated Irish whiskey if it isn't even going to try and pull it off well. -
