Highland Park Single Cask Series "Arne"
Single Malt — Orkney, Scotland
Reviewed November 15, 2019 (edited April 26, 2022)A fellow enthusiast just picked up this Total Wine exclusive. *Extremely* limited release... one barrel! By my taste, it’s worth it. 2018 bottling (distilled 2004 - 13 year), barrel strength at 63% abv, finished in a refilled Sherry butt. The nose has a good Sherry tang to it, with a strong flavor of honey, new leather, and a touch of rose. There’s a lingering fresh pear. The taste is a bit sharp, but not harsh. A good heat, but very little burn. The honey carries through along with oak and black pepper. No peat at all. The finish holds the heat a long time. The pepper lingers on the back of the palate, still glazed with honey. One of our cadre said it invokes a nice cabin in the high Sierra mountains, with snow outside and a very warm fire inside.180.0 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More -
At a cold 5*c, it’s quite light and sweet, with little of the normal whisky flavors. The taste is strong with fresh raspberries, notes of salt, and a suspicious bit of lemon meringue (just the meringue part). After warming up to room temp, there’s more of a leather smell to it. Overall, this is worthy enough to drink on its own, but not by much. I’d place this on par with a JW red, but cleaner.30.0 USD per BottleLiquorama

If you’ve been on an ocean cruise in the last 20 years, you’ve undoubtedly seen the Tortuga Rum Cakes sold in the Duty Free shopping onboard. But if you ever make a stop at the Tortuga Rum Cake factory in George Town, Grand Cayman, you can get the original rum! Most are the typical flavored rums (6 months old), but they do offer a 5 year and a 12 year Gold Rum. This review is for the 12. I’m fairly new to rums, so I can’t gauge tastes above the usual white rum well... yet. this is a good start. Some good cotton candy on the nose. Some fruit there... May be red Apple. Very full bodied taste, very sweet! Caramel is nicely developed, with subtleties that will take a while to explore. I’ll definitely buy another bottle if the opportunity comes. Released in 2013, with no wheat. Not a Stitzel-Weller source. Barcode of 8-14794-01056-1 Medium range of taste, but without the depth I was hoping for. Some citrus and a lot of spice, plus notes of leather. Almost no burn to it — very smooth. A long finish with a good bit of sour.180.0 USD per BottleSan Tomas Liquor
