A good, light taste, unpeated. Nose has decent elements of leather. Taste has strong tones of Green Apple Jolly Rancher candies. Very clean finish. No harshness at any point.

An antiseptic nose and good bit of pepper on the tongue. No great depth, but well balanced for a straight whisky.

At a cold 5*c, it’s quite light and sweet, with little of the normal whisky flavors. The taste is strong with fresh raspberries, notes of salt, and a suspicious bit of lemon meringue (just the meringue part). After warming up to room temp, there’s more of a leather smell to it. Overall, this is worthy enough to drink on its own, but not by much. I’d place this on par with a JW red, but cleaner.

If you’ve been on an ocean cruise in the last 20 years, you’ve undoubtedly seen the Tortuga Rum Cakes sold in the Duty Free shopping onboard. But if you ever make a stop at the Tortuga Rum Cake factory in George Town, Grand Cayman, you can get the original rum! Most are the typical flavored rums (6 months old), but they do offer a 5 year and a 12 year Gold Rum. This review is for the 12. I’m fairly new to rums, so I can’t gauge tastes above the usual white rum well... yet. this is a good start. Some good cotton candy on the nose. Some fruit there... May be red Apple. Very full bodied taste, very sweet! Caramel is nicely developed, with subtleties that will take a while to explore. I’ll definitely buy another bottle if the opportunity comes. Purchased Feb 2019.

Released in 2013, with no wheat. Not a Stitzel-Weller source. Barcode of 8-14794-01056-1 Medium range of taste, but without the depth I was hoping for. Some citrus and a lot of spice, plus notes of leather. Almost no burn to it — very smooth. A long finish with a good bit of sour.

Definitely the finest bourbon I have ever tasted! Depth to sink one’s soul into. Ten minutes after my second sip, I was still finding new flavors. Toffee, cherry, candy corn. Touch of soft tobacco. Very sweet, but strong flavor. Medium smoothness. DO NOT consume this with anything else — to pair with anything (except possibly water) would be a grave injustice. Closest second I’ve had to this would be the William Larue Weller 2016, which makes sense, coming from the same distillery. $200 for 1.5oz pour.

Overall tastes average for a semi-aged. No over-arching flavor. Better than a white rum, but not even close to a dark. Purchased a 50ml in Jamaica for $4

Like most Basil Hayden's, it's very light on the palate. This dark rye is quite sweet, even for BH. Little to no bite, so you can down a glass of this very fast... or make it disappear into a mixed drink. Good for a common drink, but you'll be looking for far better if you want something to savor.
