Benromach Peat Smoke 2005
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 4, 2015 (edited June 14, 2018)Excellent peated entry for a Speyside. Totally changed (for the better) with some water added. Leather and white pepper come to the fore. I typically always enjoy drams neat but this improved and changed so much I made an exception. I bought this on a whim. I'm a Laphroaig and Ardbeg fan. This has the peat without the iodine/salinity of those (my kids call it "band-aid" smell). While I'm not a fan of NAS bottles. I would heartily recommend this! Neat or diluted gives you a single bottle with multiple personalities. -
High West Bourye (2015 Release)
Blended American Whiskey — Indiana & Kentucky (Bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed May 10, 2015My current favorite suggested by our local whiskey purveyor. I'm glad I took his suggestion! The nose is sweet yet oakey but in my opinion does not do justice to the taste. Vanilla, caramel with some well balanced astringent and wood. LOVELY stuff. Sweeter than I would have guessed but that is by no means a bad thing. I have added this to my top shelf. Smooth, woody medium-long finish. Great find! -
