Lagg 2019 Inaugural Release Batch 1
Single Malt — Island, Scotland
Reviewed October 23, 2022 (edited December 2, 2023)(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Whisky Tasting, 08 October 2022). Nose: Earthy/peaty, medicinal, herbal (sage & tarragon), fruity/sweet, caramel. Mezcal-like. Wood smoke. Palate: Wood smoke, butterscotch, malt loaf, vanilla, caramel. Slightly mineral. Finish: Medium long. Wet peat, wood smoke, herbal (more sage). A little more of the butterscotch on the aftertaste. OK, first up, it tasted young. Lots of herbal/green Mezcal notes, with a load of damp sweet peat. It puts me in mind of Werther's Originals, sweet pipe smoke and malt loaf. To my palate, this needs more time, but generally it's not a bad young dram. 100% ex-bourbon casks Matured for three years Concerto barley Peated to 50PPM 1 of 10,000 bottles (worldwide) Came fifth out of the six drams, with 7% of the final vote for favourite of the night. 53% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky.75.0 GBP per BottleThe Good Spirits Co. -
South Star Highland Single Malt 10 Year Old
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed October 23, 2022(Good Spirits Co. Glasgow – Virtual Whisky Tasting, 08 October 2022). Nose: Fruit, toffee caramel, nutty, orange, slightly floral Palate: Fresh, citrus, nutty/walnut, very woody as it builds on the palate, malty Finish: Medium long finish. Dry, gristy, wood/oak. Slightly minty and herbal. Sweetens on the aftertaste and more of the woodiness Tasty and woody, with a load of high fruity notes on the palate, but developing into a sweet woodiness on the finish. They don't disclose the distillery, but my guess is that it could easily be a Blair Athol. This is what I'd consider a quaffing whisky. Really easy drinking and well priced. Cracker! 1 of 2,148 Bottles Bottled: 2021 Vatting of ten first fill hogsheads Came last out of the six drams, with 0% of the final vote for favourite of the night. 47% of those present said they enjoyed the whisky.49.5 GBP per BottleThe Good Spirits Co. -
