I like this better than the 12yr. Nose: at first, a strong briny scent, with poached Bartlett pears and vanilla underneath. After a while, an oily, petroleum scent. Palate: pears and baking spices. Thick and chewy. A bit of caramel and vanilla. Finish: lingering. More brine in the back of the throat. Some alcohol burn, but not unpleasant.

Quite an enjoyable dram. I also like the 18yr, but it's been a while... I'd like to be able to compare them side by side. Nose : Peat up front, sea spray, light smoke, slight medicinal iodine note Palate : sweet on the tip of the tongue, but quickly gives way to a salty / briny dried kelp flavor as it coats your mouth Finish : medium length; sea brine remains, and the light smoke from the nose makes a comeback.

Not as peaty as I had expected. Nose : strong earthy / peaty notes, without being outright smoky; vanilla and oak notes underneath Palate : sweet up front, fruity, baked pear, some honey, dessert spices; tongue coating; pleasant peatiness on the back of the tongue Finish : short-to-medium length, peat notes travel back up to the nose; slight alcohol burn
