Tastes

A lot of grain on the nose. Like freshly baked bread. Little sweetness too. Palate is bready too. Exactly what you’d expect from a rye, but it does those classic flavors well. Finish is shorter than you’d expect for the proof, but I wouldn’t call it short.

Black cherries and brown sugar on the nose. Palate is sweet and a little sour, with notes of black pepper and candied fruit, followed by a spicy finish. Very pleasant.

TONS of maple syrup on the nose. Butterscotch and red wine, too. The spice you’d expect from a 95% rye comes in on the palate, along with a hint of caramel apples. Spicy, long finish that hugs you tight. Like a warm blanket in a glass.

A lot of peat on the nose (but keep in mind I’m more of a bourbon guy than scotch), as well as some mild fruity notes. The rye and bourbon come through on the palate, with notes of caramel and spice, as well as some honey. The finish is like a scotch too, with smoke and peat taking over. This thing’s wild. Almost like a scotch for bourbon lovers.

Nose is very vegetal, with some notes of maple syrup coming in after it opens up. Palate is more rye than bourbon. Rather bready, but also not super spicy. Finish is on the short side of medium, with more vegetal notes and tobacco smoke.

Maple syrup and peppermint on the nose. Very nice. Palate is pepperminty too, with some lemon, cloves, and baking spices as well. That spice lingers through the finish, which is smokey, almost peaty, and long. Nice hug. An excellent glass for a cold day.

Baking spice and banana on the nose. More banana on the palate, with some apples and cinnamon too. Medium finish with some more savory, smokier notes.

Nose is subtle for a rye (and a 112 proof), and smells more like a bourbon, with caramel prevailing. The palate definitely gives away that it’s a rye, tasting like baked bread. More interestingly, a strong mint flavor comes in at the end and dominates the finish. Whole lotta mint. Wow. The longer you drink it, the more the mint takes over. After a while, it bears resemblance to toothpaste.

Smells like strawberry short cake. Palate is also very sweet, with some peach notes. The finish goes in the complete opposite direction with smoke and spice.

The nose on this bad boy is RICH. Lots of caramel and butterscotch with some fainter strawberry notes as well. Palate isn’t quite as sweet, with notes of baking spice and nuts. Finish is medium-long with a nice hug and notes of rye spice and cloves.
