Rye — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed May 3, 2019 (edited December 30, 2020)Nose: caramel (burnt), vanilla, toffee, cherry Body: full Palate: peppery spice, hot molasses. Vanilla, cherry Finish: long warm with toffee Note: spicy, warming and a very delicious dram -
Representing the southern highlands Nose: oaky and oranges. Tangerine. Honey. Light vanilla sweetness. So distinct from anything I’ve nosed before. Distinct. Almost just a ghost of smoke Body: super smooth and easy Palate: orange, pie crust Finish: short and sweet with just a hint of smoke Note: this is really good. The nose is so different the taste is sweet. My only fault is the finish doesn’t last as long as I would like.

Representing Speyside Livet River Nose: a sugary orange, toffee, sweet oak. A little more apricot/sherry Body: medium and easy Palate: sweet, caramel a little spice. Sherry and very light pepper Finish: long, sweet late oak Note: this is a really nice scotch. Sweet, light, floral, warming an easy dram that is delicious. Second tasting, so much sugar on the palate. Crazy smooth, orange peel shavings on pie crust with caramel sauce. Nuts on the nose. This is really good

Nose:very nice and easy nose, not pushy. Has salted caramel and vanilla. The requisite bourbon nose with toffee. A hint of maple syrup. Body: thin, light, easy Palate: medium spice, vanilla, caramel, very pleasant Finish: long and burning but in a good way. Lingering caramel and toffee, wafts of distant maple syrup being boiled. Note: this is good. Easy to drink and pleasant. Like so many good bourbons it has all the important features of spice and caramel, vanilla, toffee, this adds a like maple syrup note. Very good

Nose: rich creamy caramel, light oak, sherry (apricot), light salt Body: medium Palate: nice light spice with a salted caramel apple. Finish: nice slow burn with more apple Note: I thought this was light, a nice bourbon but nothing stands out except it’s lightness and ease of drinking. I would buy this.

Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2018
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 24, 2019 (edited June 17, 2024)Note: apricot, very fruity from far away, vanilla, orange, magic marker(?), almond, cherry and oak Body: thin, light, easy Palate: light on spice and oranges Finish: delayed warmth and interesting but not complex. Note: I really wanted to love this one but in the end it was easy to drink and simple. I do very much like it but perhaps not robust enough or distinctive enough to get into the love it collection. But I would buy this. -
Nose: distinctive from staff and van winkle, almost mossy, salted caramel green apple, honey dew, tannin, and water makes this floral Body: medium, oily and water makes is more enveloping. Palate: loads of cherries, mainly dark cherry, light spice reminiscent of old rip van winkle 10, nutty and light caramel with water Finish: smooth, dark chocolate, lingers. Note: not as spicy as PVW or ORVW or stagg. Distinct flavors especially the dark chocolate cherry. This really hits me as all about the cherries.
