Deanston 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 4, 2020 (edited February 6, 2020)Nothing really special but it comes with large portion of summer honey. Reminds me a lot of fresh June rapeseed and lime tree honey. It comes with some intense sweetness as well, which probably originates from the honey aromas.Pinkernells Whisky Market -
BenRiach Heart of Speyside
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 3, 2020 (edited February 6, 2020)An interesting bottle of some creative cask mixing attempts. I assume the whisky itself is very young but what sets this one aside from other BenRiachs is the explosion of dried fruits you get both from the nose and the palate. It is a bowl of raisins, dried apricots and dates. It sadly doesn’t have much else to offer after that. But it is something different while also being very light. I think this might be a good whisky to present to people new to the whisky world.Pinkernells Whisky Market -
Wolfburn Morven Single Malt
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 2, 2020 (edited February 4, 2020)This one is not much better then its sibling “Northland”. The peat gives it some character but sadly enough I don’t get much more except the peat and the light fruitiness of the base “Northland”. Sadly the peat also is not very pleasant and feels misplaced. It really needs some age, that might help it. -
Wolfburn Northland
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 2, 2020 (edited December 13, 2020)I really tried to like it when I tasted this as a first of the Wolfburn line. Their story, standards and procedures really got me interested and as their “flagship” whisky this one really is nothing special. It is very young and tasty - a light Allrounder - but that is about it. It is gone right after you swallowed a sip, which gives you some very light fruity flavors and a very very minor hint of peat. It really isn’t bad but it needs like double its age in some heavy casks to really give it a uniqueness. -
Highland Park 12 Year Viking Honour
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed February 1, 2020 (edited August 11, 2020)I was really positively surprised by this one. So much that I ordered the 18 years old one right after I tasted it. Its light peat aromas give it an interesting first impression on the nose but what comes after it is equally interesting and unique as well. It is an all-in-all good whisky which I assume will be very enjoyable for a wide range of whisky appreciators. They peat is definitely there but not overwhelming at all. I think it gives it its maturity. For a 12 years old whisky it really has something to offer that many equally old ones can’t. Looking forward to other Highland Park whiskies. -
