Don Julio Primavera
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed August 11, 2021 (edited August 16, 2021)I was really excited to open this bottle but I suppose I was expecting more from the cask finish. A nice reposado but You can find better at $50 less a bottle. -
Wow! At first I thought neck pour was too hot for my tastes. But after several weeks opened this is insane. Nose: big, rich and sweet. Carmel, maple vanilla and cherry. As big as it is (that’s what she said) you can bury your nose in the glass without much alcohol detected. Best I can recall Taste: you know who’s boss. Sweet maple Syrup that builds up to a decadent tart cherry. A massive, shape shifting beaut! This ebbs and flows through intensely wonderful flavors and a sensations. Finish: gulp that sip down...there’s the heat, but in a magically wonderful way. Spice and oak grip the tongue as long as you can manage. Sticks around for as long as you care to wait to take the next sip. Level 10 clinger. This one hangs around well after you thought possible Perfect

Smoke Wagon Desert Jewel Reserve
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed June 18, 2020 (edited December 10, 2020)This is a bottle I didn’t originally know a ton about but was interested in. Not only did it have great reviews but with a sweet looking bottle, how could I not be ISO? I found this to be like a cross between EHT SiB and The recent Old Fitz 13 decanter. Drank along side Smoke Wagon small batch, Michter’s 10 Bourbon 2019, and Barrell Bourbon 15. I would rank this 2nd best of the night, puting this slightly ahead of M10 ( the higher proof helped) but not the Barrell 15, yo, which is one of my favorites. -
Very Olde St. Nick 12 Year Antique Barrel Kentucky Bourbon (Lot 2)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 27, 2020 (edited September 15, 2020)This is fantastic and really complex for the proof. Nice wheated nose, a little heat upfront with a moderately dry wood, tart finish. Unfortunately not much info on this bottle other than VanWinkle family produced them sourced. So Easy, Weller 12+ Update: halfway through this bottle And it continues to grow on me. Tasted again tonight after a pour of some more oaky bourbons (GTS 19 and Cream of Kentucky B1) and I picked up notes of strawberries and cream and less oak than previously, although my pallet might be blown from the higher proofs. Still really digging this -
George T. Stagg Bourbon (Fall 2019)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 26, 2020 (edited April 2, 2020)Neck pour neat. Nice deep heat that would suggest a lower proof than it really is. Wood, vanilla, cola , tart cherry and spice. Nice aftertaste with a spicy heat and a lingering tartness -
WhistlePig Old World Series Madeira Finish 12 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Vermont), USA
Reviewed December 23, 2019 (edited September 20, 2020)Bottle was opened about a year ago, at first the taste is dominated by deep desert wine flavors. From there things lighten up until very slowly fading into a spicy rye finish. Great balance between heavy rye mash bill and fortified wine barrels. -

Barrell Craft Spirits Gray Label Bourbon 15 Year (2018 Release)
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 17, 2019 (edited October 14, 2020)2019 release Nose: caramel, citrus, vanilla, cherries and herbs Taste: fruit jumps out first with little burn. Orange zest, cherry pie, leather and vanilla. Slightly tart. The longer it sits in your mouth the more it ebbs and flows between these different flavors. Great mouthfeel. Water brings the fruit forward on the nose and the leather, fruit, cherry pie and wood out on the taste Finish: slow building heat that’s never overpowering punches through the fruitiness of the taste and eventually fades into cinnamon and then spearmint that lingers for several minutes. The minty, menthol finish is the most defining note of this pour. Opened my bottle ASAP to see if I wanted to stock up on this. It’s a good pour but I will not be going back for more at this cost **Edited review after bottle was open for 2 weeks. The menthol finish isn’t quite as intense and seems more balanced with the spice and cherry. Bumped rating up .25. This is growing on me. **3rd edit- once the bottle had time to breathe (3 months) the menthol characteristics have a faded substantially and I’m left with waves of Rye Spice, citrus, peppercorns and cherry that come and go and come again in the finish. I said I wouldn’t buy more...and that was a lie... 15004 bottles made, but only 15000 available to the rest of you fools at the moment. I never want to be without this and I will buy this bottle at every available opportunity if the price is right.259.0 USD per Bottle -
113.5 proof. Neat pour from fresh bottle. Stale popcorn and red hots, spicy. Mint, cinnamon and a hint of menthol cherry on the finish. I was way more excited to find this bottle before I tried it, now it will go into Manhattans over the holidays. I have absolutely no idea how this bottle is expertly rated a 96
