Tastes

Very smooth and easy to drink. A sweet nose with vanilla predominantly. Easy on the pallet with a good mouthfeel even though it is thin. Creamy and mild spice. A short finish but the creamy feel lingers which I like. Another great whisky from the buffalo trace family.

Full of sweet notes on the nose. Vanilla, some Carmel and a feint bit of oak. The pallet is immediately sweet vanilla and a velvety mouthfeel. Following midway with an excellent spice that lingers into the finish. The finish is oaky and a touch of leather. Delicious and fabulous for the $20-30 price tag.

Not much on the nose. Thin mouth feel. At first I got almost a green pepper or earthy / vegetable note on the pallet. After a couple more sips a bit of salt and more earthy. Towards the end of my dram I got a bit of fruit almost like apple. Not bad, not great. Too thin on the pallet and too plain. But still whisky :) and can’t complain was given the bottle as a gift.

For the $37 price point it’s pretty good. Standard nose with sweet notes. The palate has, like described, a balance of sweet to spice which I like. Overall, a decent bottle. A fair amount of complexity for a bottle in the $30’s range. I’m enjoying it.

If there was a bourbon with lace on its edges this is it. Very delicate on the pallet. Smooth delux! It’s a great bourbon. A bit too smooth for my liking, but a great bourbon none the less. I enjoyed the sweet flavors, but wished the finish was longer and more spice.

A great oaky spicy bourbon! Campfire here we come, rain storm here we come, snowed in here we come! A great hearty bourbon with spice on the front and mid of the finish with a delicious sweet bread note on the end. A sweet nose and robust mouth feel. A great bourbon in the $50 range.

An interesting bottle. Has the classic wild turkey flavor and nose, but I taste a small amount more peat than normal. Gives this expression an old time feel. Overall a good bourbon, not my favorite wild turkey expression, but a good drink none the less. Update a month later: This is a better bottle than my first tasting. The nose and taste is still classic wild turkey, with a nice mid pallet spice and lingers a bit in a good way. But now that the bottle has been opened up a month or so I don’t taste the peaty note I first did. Might have been the neck pour was different. I updated my rating to 3.75 from 3.5

Absolutely fantastic for the $20-30 range. Super hard to beat this classic bourbon. Sweet on the nose and pallet, but a nice mid level spice on the finish. A great product from a great distillery. All the buffalo trace products are great, this one is a house favorite for sure.

My favorite rye yet! The nose is amazing, wife says it’s smells like fresh pancakes with hot maple syrup on top. It has baking spices and smells like Christmas morning should! A smooth sweet pallet, with a mild burn and mid length finish. An excellent rye in the $70-80 range. More than that and they are taking you to town.

A great high proof bourbon. Some complexity on the pallet from the alcohol content, but also some sweetness from the corn mash bill. A fantastic bourbon for the $50 range. Only downside is the proof, can’t drink as much as others without gettin lit, but it’s darn good!
