-On the nose: Peanuts, dry salted caramel, vanilla, light chocolate and black pepper. The pepper is easy to get mixed up in the proof because it’s quite different from the other notes. The scent profile is pretty exciting. It’s like smelling a payday candy bar with a little spicy chocolate. -Palette and Finish: black pepper up front with a hint of the salted caramel. The salted caramel gets stronger and is joined with peanuts. The finish is long and very enjoyable as a sweeter chocolate and vanilla come back to you in the end. The proof is hot, but it shouldn’t be more than you’re expecting. It’s worth letting this breath and working past the proof for this flavor. I really enjoyed this and was glad to have found a bottle of batch A120.

-On the nose: Some banana right away then marshmallow with grain cereal notes coming through like smelling a bowl of lucky charms and vanilla ice cream followed with a delightful cigar/tobacco scent and it all comes together nicely. Letting it breath will help get past the proof of this if you’re keen on getting to the scent profiles. -Palette and Finish: black pepper and baking spices up front with the proof getting right in your face, but it’s welcomed. Banana and grains from the nose come in and the finish burns through with the spices and tobacco. The proof is hot and wonderful. You feel every bit of the 125 proof with this. If it’s too much, add a bit of ice or water to soften it up, but don’t let the proof keep you from trying this. I would say it’s not a “must own”, but is a “must try”.

Old Forester 1897 Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 26, 2020 (edited April 29, 2020)-On the nose: Immediate sugary banana like the banana runts candies is accompanied by caramel apple, vanilla, and leather after breathing for a few minutes. A combination that’ll make you think “that smells weird but delicious”. -Palette and Finish: banana and caramel apple from the nose hit as soon as this touches the tongue, but are quickly gone and followed by black pepper, spices, leather, and light vanilla that stick with the finish which lingers long enough to be satisfying as these notes fade away. The proof feels just right in combination with the flavor profiles. It is warming but leaves room to feel the kick from the black pepper. This is delicious to drink and fun to taste. This is the bold flavor I was hoping for and already want to grab another bottle because this is delicious. -
Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 25, 2020 (edited March 17, 2020)-On the nose: let this breath for a few minutes and you will find a delicious bananas foster with cherries on top waiting for you. It is exactly that and it is intoxicating. I spent way too much time with my nose in the glass before actually tasting this. -Palette and Finish: very smooth and light. A little sweetness carried through from the bananas and vanilla ice cream greet you with cinnamon that carries you into the finish. I had hoped for a more bold flavor, but at this proof I’m not surprised at how light it truly is on the palette. However, the finish lasts pretty long and even though the lower proof makes for a lack of boldness, this long finish has such a delightful flavor of cinnamon and barrel spices. The proof is lower and doesn’t bring much heat or boldness, but the flavor profiles are pleasant and long lasting. I would say that drinking this without getting the scent profile would be a missed opportunity to add a necessary part of enjoying this bourbon. -
Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 23, 2020 (edited March 24, 2020)-On the nose: After letting this breath for a good 15 minutes (highly recommended) it opens up into unique and intoxicating blend. It’s like opening a humidor cabinet up front with a fresh cigar tobacco smell and a mix of cherry and apple, but all of the sweetness comes from the vanilla. One of the most complex scent profiles I’ve come across and I am loving it. -Palette and finish: dry but smooth; charred oak and spices are the most notable here, but accompanied by vanilla and mild cherry. finish with a feint reminder of the tobacco and cherry. The proof is hot and phenomenal; compliments the tobacco and lingers long enough to make you excited to come back for more. This is a pretty complex bourbon and for the price is a great value. Something that I recommend anyone try at least once!
