Aged Rum — Dominican Republic
Reviewed September 2, 2020Sweet molasses, spice, and bananas mix warmly to make a surprisingly soft and sweet sipper -
Westward American Single Malt Cask Strength
American Single Malt — Oregon , USA
Reviewed June 9, 2020 (edited February 25, 2022)Amazing cocoa, toasted cookies, and hints of a good thick beer. This is a shockingly good bottle and more drinkable than most cask strength drams I've had. Goes in the favorites. -
Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed December 3, 2019 (edited January 3, 2020)This has slowly become my go to affordable Irish the more I have drank it. All of the very inviting sugar cookie and honey flavors of a loveable Irish but with the added touch of sweet chocolate the lingers after every sip that I've come to absolutely love. -
A surprising Irish indeed. On the nose it it has all of the classic smells of honey and sugar cookie with the added vanilla of a bourbon. Upon tasting the punch of charred oak hits right away and lingers throughout though sweetness starts to come through at the end with vanilla and a little caramel. Unique for sure but sadly not Irish enough for when I'm wanting one and, of course, not anywhere near a good bourbon. Not sure how often I would be in the mood for something that kind of floats between the two.

Though I enjoy the more light grassy and honey dew aspects of this Speyside, there is a lingering taste and smell that reminds me of something sweet that has gone spoiled. I can't quite put my finger on it but, after trying it several times, have decided that it is one of the very few whisk(e)ys I would turn down when offered a free pour.

This is a bourbon that benefits greatly from resting in the glass for 10 minutes. Mostly oak at first and then opening up to classic Four Roses flavors of cherries and vanilla. The issue with small batch is that all flavors are surprisingly faint and sometimes hard to find which, I think, removes a lot of the complex aspects of this drink. Decent but not for it's price.

Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 3, 2019 (edited January 3, 2020)This is a very nice sweet Scotch with the strong sherry notes of raisins and even bananas with a nutty aftertaste. Not the best in the amazing group of 12 year Speysides but holds its own and makes for one of my favorite after meal sippers. -
Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 3, 2019 (edited January 3, 2020)To me, this is what I want a daily sipping bourbon to taste like. Nice classic hints of oak and vanilla with the sweetness of the corn really coming through. One of my favorites because, as I once heard it said best, "it tastes like coming home". -
High West Double Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed December 3, 2019 (edited December 22, 2019)A must try for anyone wanting to get into American Ryes. Plesant floral and spicy notes that taste much younger than most of the other High West offerings. Beware of the strong dill taste that lasts throughout if that is something you do not like.
