Pinhook Bohemian Bourbon High Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 10, 2021 (edited September 12, 2021)Sampled in a glencairn, neat 2 years, 10 months in age, opened ~ 6 months Dark yellow in appearance Nose: alcohol, honey, vanilla, brown sugar, a hint of tea, but more Snapple peach tea than a straight black tea Palate: good mouthfeel, thick, sweet honey, more Snapple peach, alcohol bite and some bitterness Finish: short, honey and cardboard, a reminder of the Snapple peach T8ke scale: 5, good, just fine This has improved with oxidation, as the neck pour was horrible, just alcohol and cardboard. Now I’m kinda interested to see what this juice will look like when they actually get some age on it -
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed August 10, 2021 (edited October 31, 2021)Used a tulip blending glass ( I know, not really the right image for Jack…), neat Rusty gold in appearance Nose: bananas foster, vanilla, nutty under tones, acetone, juicy fruit gum Palate: thin, light, brown sugar and juicy fruit gum, and lots of bananas, but more the fake ester then the real fruit Finish: short, bananas and some oaky bitterness T8ke scale: 4 It’s jack, it ubiquitous, and it’s not bad, but as I’ve tasted more whisky, I find I’m attracted to other things. Kinda like that first girl friend from high school…. (Ducks) -
Tulip blending glass, served neat Light rust in appearance Nose: cherries, Snapple peach tea, vanilla, some grapey undertones Palate: medium mouth feel, Carmel and toffee, candied oranges, oak, vanilla, almost no burn Finish: short, vanilla and oak, some brown sugar T8ke scale: 7, great, well above average I’ve enjoyed this a lot over the years, normally around $45 now (used to be $35), but a really nice single barrel, still kinda amazed the taters haven’t pushed it to allocated status, given it’s a blend of mashbill 1&2. It’s better and cheaper and more available then Blantons, Elmer or Rock Hill Farms I’d love to get my hands on a barrel select at barrel proof!
