Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 4, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Hot 100, but with water or ice it calms down and becomes a smokey, chocolate front, and a spicey hot finish that isnt overwhelming and leaves smokey notes. -
I bought this for Manhattan's, my go to cocktail. I tried it over ice first, and it was definitely a WHEAT bourbon. It wasn't as sweet as I heard at first, but quite complex and for $21 (MI) very good. Mixed into a Manhattan this is a solid wheat-bourbon that makes for a unique, but good taste at $21. If you find it, buy it and learn a different taste profile.

Old Overholt Straight Rye Whiskey (80 proof)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 16, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)I had never actually had Overholt and bought a bottle assuming all the rave reviews would leave me with a solid choice. I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't blown away feeling as if II got some super great deal. It has a unique flavor, and is definitely a RYE, but I bought it thinking it would make a GREAT manhattan and it didn't. The taste was almost too unique to make it feel like it could be an everyday cocktail base.
