Wayne Gretzky No. 99 Ninety Nine Proof Canadian Whisky
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed August 29, 2021Good whiskey, STUPIDLY overpriced at 99$ at Lcbo and Wayne Gretzky Estates...not worth more 45-50$ Canadian... If it was appropriately priced at 45-50$ it would definitely be worth getting and would be a great whiskey to represent Canadian Whisky but at 99$...it's a full on SCAM. They did 99$ because it's wayne gretzky...but like...there is no age statement. Is it aged 20 + years??? If not then drop the price! -

Deanston Virgin Oak
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed May 29, 2021 (edited September 21, 2021)The Virgin Oak provided more Pepper than anything else in this dram. Nose: Cereal, Fruity, Oaky, Honey, Cooked Spiced Apples, Banana Custard Palate: Pepper, pepper and more pepper. The Distiller critique recommends no water but you will need 0.25-0.5 teaspoons per ounce of distilled water to lighten the pepper enough to get anything else. Once I added some water I got. Fruitiness. Some Fresh green apple Peel. And some miscellaneous cooked/dried fruit can't put my finger on it. You can find the banana for sure. Finish: Short, Peppery with bitter Green Apple Peel. A nice sipping budget Malt but nothing to write home about. If you find it on sale pick it up and give it a try otherwise. Meh you'll get more out of any glenlivet or Glenfiddich. 83 points Cheap NAS Malt. -
Nose: Baking Spices everywhere, Rye Bread (Duh), caramel, brown sugar, maple, butterscotch, orange peel, Slight maraschino. Honestly kind of smells like an old-fashioned. 8.5/10 Palate: Black Pepper, Rye again (Duh), More Baking Spices, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, hint of clove, FRESH HIGH QUALITY CIGAR TOBACCO. If you've ever smoked a nice fresh high quality sweet cigar you can taste a bit of this. Vanilla. 9/10 Finish: Average Lenght, Oaky Tannins, Cinnamon, Black Pepper and Clove. 7.75/10 Very high quality Rye Whiskey for the price will buy again and again I'm sure. I will also explore their line up further. 92 points.37.0 CAD per BottleOttawa

Nose: Roasted Marshmallows, Leafy, Lawn Clippings?, Smoke Salmon, Old Moist Wood Smell like walking by an Old wood Shed/Old Lakeside/Seaside Cottage, find this old wood smell leads to a Vanilla, Seaweed (Of course). Definetly a salted meat smell PEAT Briny, Wet sock also... SMOKE DUH 31/33 Palate: Salty, Ashy, Delicious, Pepper, Bitter, Overly-Steeped Tea, Astringent, It is sweet but I would say it is a sharp Oaky Vanilla Sweet not so much a Caramel sweet might be some underlying Caramel. Undercooked Peas. Herbal, Taste like burnt flower garden if that was possible. 29/34 Finish: Medium-Long The exhale through the nose you just smell ocean side campfire very amazing. Just bring back memories. 30/33 When to drink ? Definetly by a campfire, by a body of water, dock, beach, lake. This whisky will help you bring back good memories when you enjoy it again the aroma is very strong. Any special occasion is good this is a Light Whiskey, I'd enjoy anytime on its own or with some Salty foods or fatty cuts of meat. Put it in a flask and take anywhere. The smell and flavour is so strong you can enjoy it from any glass. Want something similiar obviously any Laphroaig is good, of course Ardbeg 10 is similiar. Want something Caol Ila, Talisker will be Richer, Lagavulin much Richer. Definetly a classic whisky for peated whisky lovers or for those taking a step up from Bowmore. My points 90/100 4/5 Stars Cheers let's go for another.

Nose : Leather, Vegetale, Salty Seabreeze, Smoke Palate: Briny, Smoke, Pepper, Oaky/Woody Vanilla. Light Citrus Finish: Pepper and Smoke Linger. Medium Lenght Adding a little water bring out the Caramel. When to drink: Outside for sure, Late Spring to Late Summer, on a breezy day or on a coolish night by a campfire would be a good time. At the price this is definitely something nice to share with friends that don't often drink peaty Scotch or Scotch in general. Bring a bottle of this to a gathering or on a vacation with good company. Something you can put in a flask as well. Some whiskies are so peaty you can't really have more then two Drams, but this is an easy drinker. A step up for those that like Johnnie Walker Black and want something better. Recommendations for more: If you want something that is similar and richer go for the Bowmore 15, want something both smokier and Richer Lagavulin is the way to go for you. Talisker is also a good idea. If you want something that features Peat way more to the point you can taste the vegetale peat Ardbeg 10 or Laphroaig 10 will be the way to go. You could even try Arbdeg Wee Beastie and Laphroaig Select which are cheaper the 10 year olds I will be coming back for more notes as I drink more of this. Good Value - 84 points so I'll give it 3.5 Stars which is still very good just not something that will make me go wow wow wow. But for the price you can't go wrong. You won't regret purchasing this unless you haaaaaate anything smoky at all. Great way to introduce someone to Islay or Sctoch. Or just to give Islay a second chance if your on a budget. If you have the money and want to give Smoky Islays a second chance go for Bowmore 15 or if you want to gift someone an Introductory Islay and want to make sure they like definitely go for the 15.
