As this is the first mezcal I’ve tried, I don’t have any experience to draw on for tasting notes. Well, that’s not entirely correct, I have tasted several tequilas, and I am well experienced in peaty scotch, so those are the connections I can make. The nose comes on like barbecue sauce, smokey, sweet, tangy, spicy. There is agave present, bright like a blanco tequila. I pick up some citrus zest, and pepper corn, mint, and sage. The smoke has a slight mesquite hint. First taste, the bright clean agave sweetness hits the tongue. There’s vanilla, and light agave syrup. Then the smoke arrives, for scotch enthusiasts, this is much more like Laphroaig than say Ardbeg or Talisker, the smoke is like a newly started fire, when the moisture is being burnt off, this isn’t toasted wood. The flavors don’t stop with smoke, there is more citrus, and a fresh green vegetable, like fresh sweet peas or green beans (I know that’s in the “expert review” too, but that doesn’t make it wrong). The mesquite and mint linger for a very long time.31.95 USD per Bottle

Rye, rye, rye, some caramel, mint, eucalyptus, cooked fruit, and vanilla come out of the glass. There’s sweet simple syrup and a bitterness instantly on the tongue. Opening up, there’s plenty of rye bread, and spice, cinnamon and ginger, and a bit of cloves. The finish stays, with sugar syrup, rye, dill, and mint.17.95 USD per Bottle

George Dickel TABASCO Brand Barrel Finish
Flavored Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited July 9, 2021)Nope. A too sweet bourbon, with the vinegar and salt, as well as mild pepper flavor of Tabasco sauce, but not in a good way. This is not pleasant, the only “whiskey” I have ever just poured down the sink. -
First Impression, newly opened bottle. The first smell is like brandy, there is a wine quality, with slight ethanol, and vanilla. The initial taste is much less sweet than the smell implies, surprisingly so. It coats the mouth, feeling thicker and creamier than the nose lets on as well. The flavor develops into citrus, oranges, with the peel, being forward. There are barrel tannins, and some dryness on the finish, but it’s the orange peel that lingers.39.95 USD per Bottle
