Majoring in whisk(e)y, with minors in rum and mezcal. I have a collection of about 200 bottles, with a focus on American craft and Islay, Highland and Island Scotches. If you'd like to trade samples@ please contact me at [email protected].

All the right bourbon notes, smooth and nice. but I always hope for something really special in this price range (and fairly or unfairly, I expect even more of relatively rare whiskeys that command top dollar). This was very good, but not truly special IMO. This is hard to find for sale; I found it at Fluke Newport in Newport Rhode Island. If you're in the area, head up to the bar on the third floor - they have an awesome selection

I've heard it said that this is a one note whiskey, but that one note is very good. Although I don't feel that it's quite that simple, it's not a bad description. This is relatively young corn whiskey, and corn is the note on the palate (the nose, has some interesting fruit and floral notes; if I had to guess from the nose alone, I might suspect it was from Ireland). Because of the age, the alcohol is prevalent, but does not have an edge or burn to it. It otherwise is a fairly delicate and balanced whiskey. Perhaps the small barrel aging does the trick, or maybe it's the New York corn. But to my palate, this one tones down the harshness of a corn spirit while enhancing the sweet, flavorful profile.
