Sample from Max’s. A little too sweet for me, I like finished spirits to still have a balance. Nose has notes of tobacco, pepper, and orange. Palate has substantial honey and burnt sugars on it. Orange, pear, slight might and pepper. Cocoa and oak notes round it out. The finish is what I dislike most, bittersweet and long lasting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good rum, just not as good as I’d hoped.

Delicious, my first foray into Agricole. Nose is like a pot of boiling vegetable soup with sugarcane tossed in. Crazy aromatic nose full, of buttery, unctuous smells that are hard to define. Palette has celery, carrot, ethanol which quickly shifts to pepper and mint. Finish is dry and slightly hot, but an inferring vegetable flavor carrier through. Delicious as a whole, breathe in while you drink.

Seale and crew have done it again. Nose is a harmonious blend of rich oak, overripe fruit, delicious holiday cakes and a nice high proof alcohol burn. Palette starts with a bit of the hogo fruit and sweetness up front which is very short lived and replaced by a sweet woodsy flavor contrasted by a sharp black pepper. Finish is crazy long with an amazing tongue tickle, burn and banana bread.

I don’t have many benchmarks for mezcal except my memory. I’ll have to start this with an arbitrary 4, it’s definitely good enough to buy again. Nose is what id expect. Smokiness, with some carmalized sugars, lime and a dash of menthol and ethanol. Palette follows suit pretty well. Fresh agave lime notes up front, followed by a slight mineral flavor and some menthol. Finish nice and charred Smokey pepper. Long deep smoky finish, delicious.

My Go to silver rum. Found this gem and it’s now a staple in my cabinet. Nose is full of the tropics meets an apothecary. Lots of stone fruits, pineapple, herbs and potent hogo. Palette is super clean, super funk filled. Great pineapple and apple notes, followed by aromatics and herbs... almost an agave note at the end. Finish is long and amazing. This is truly a great supper and an amazing addition to any rum cocktail.
