Driftless Glen Single Barrel Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Wisconsin, USA
Reviewed April 21, 2020 (edited September 28, 2020)CBRC pick, “Luke’s Unicorn Dream”, 41 months, barrel 1558, 118.6 proof. Definitely a heavy hitter, can taste the ethanol but it’s well managed. Nose has notes of cedar, vanilla, overripe fruits and tea. Palette is similar but additions of cinnamon and rye heat. Finish is exactly what you expect of a high proof rye. Long and hot. A little expensive for this but it’s best use has been as a high proof rye in an old fashioned. -
Maker's Mark Private Select Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 12, 2020 (edited January 8, 2021)“Danny and Brig go to Makers Mark” 54.5% abv, heavy on the French cuvee and French mocha planks. Nose of cocoa, coffee, burnt sugars and lilac. Very soft mouthfeel, starts slightly bready and quickly turns spun sugar, pears, caramel and chocolate... almost like a Mexican pastry. Hint of baking spices on the tail end. Nice long finish that’s got just a dash of heat with lots of dessert. Fantastic light dessert bourbon that betrays it’s somewhat high proof. -
Cbrc Shopping Spree #4 Best Rye I have ever tasted. The story behind this bottle is: Barrel bought 8 MGP barrels of 95/5 rye from a defunct distillery and stashed them away because they were so good. Years later they unearthed them and offered them to top clients. One barrel went to the Colorado rye and bourbon collectors... Nose has some crisp apple and baking spices... almost like an apple pie. Vinegar, oak, caramel and dill finish it out. Palate is caramel apples and dill pickles with an overtone of oak and baking spices. Finish is incredibly long, dry, full of dill rye and has the warmth of barrel proof. Best rye ever.

Speyburn Companion Cask
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed January 13, 2020 (edited September 25, 2020)Single malt pick from Heritage in Denver. Agree with other reviewers, like an unpeated single malt. Very light in color and sweet on the nose. Pear and white grape forward that finishes with a rye pepper punch... no dill or brine flavors though. Delicious and easy drinking but not the most complex thing in the cabinet.
